Chochołów brings together traces of the past and a village community centre where community activities take place. This gives you two distinct perspectives during your stay: the history of the place and local community activities. A municipal timetable also lists two stops and specific departures that may be relevant when planning your journey.
History Across Several Periods
A historical account dates the beginnings of Chochołów to the late 16th century and names Bartłomiej Chochołowski as its founder. Under King Stefan Batory, he was reportedly appointed hereditary village leader in recognition of his service in military campaigns. The founding account thus links a specific name to the king's reign and an hereditary office.
The original wooden chapel in Chochołów is said to have been built around 1600. This is close in time to the recorded beginnings of the place, but describes a different event: the construction of the chapel, not the founding of the village. When considering the early chronology, you can look at both accounts side by side without combining them into a single date.
In 1872, remains of an original panel altarpiece were still described in the church in Chochołów. This account relates to the church's furnishings in that year. An original charter of King Zygmunt III was said to have been carefully preserved by the residents of Chochołów. The two references concern different records—aust pieces of an altarpiece and a charter—and add further historical connections to the accounts of the village's founding and chapel.
Chochołów is also associated with a park of historical character. This extends the historical theme beyond the founding account and church connections. For the early chronology, it is worth distinguishing the beginnings in the late 16th century from the chapel dated to around 1600; the 1872 account provides a later point of reference.
Community Centre and Local Life
The village community centre in Chochołów offers a second perspective, focused on local community life. Activities take place there as part of the Gminne Centrum Promocji i Informacji of Żychlin Municipality; women's groups from Żychlin Municipality also hold activities there. The same venue therefore brings together links to a municipal centre and activities by women's groups. If you would like to include these activities in your stay, ask in advance about current dates and access.
At the 2025 Żychlin Municipality Harvest Festival, the women's group from Chochołów offered homemade food for tasting at a stall. This festival example is specific to 2025 and Żychlin Municipality; the activities at the community centre, by contrast, are directly associated with Chochołów. This distinction helps set an individual food-related festival event apart from activities at the local community centre.
Stops and Departures
A municipal timetable lists stops at the Chochołów/Strzelce junction and at the junction in Chochołów. For the Chochołów/Strzelce junction, it lists departures at 9:11 and 14:21; for the junction in Chochołów, the times are 9:15 and 14:25. Each pair of times is four minutes apart, but the times refer to different stops. So check which stop matches your planned departure. The municipal route notice is not a permanent public timetable; check the departure times against your travel date before setting off.
