Podstolice combines historic churches and chapels with opportunities for cycling and skiing. When planning your trip, you can weigh up these different priorities: should your stay focus on culture, the green cycling route or winter sports?

Churches and Chapels in Podstolice

The wooden Church of the Holy Spirit was built in 1870 on the site of an older church. Three 18th-century altars come from that earlier building. This means two periods can be distinguished: the construction date of the present church and the earlier origins of the altars. The historic wooden church is worth a detour from the cycling route.

The Chapel of Saint Florian stands in a square next to the parish Church of the Holy Spirit. It has a tall, faceted plinth topped by a life-size sandstone statue of Saint Florian. The green cycling route also passes a chapel founded by Agnieszka and Mateusz Chlebdowie in 1872.

Green Cycling Route through Podstolice

The green cycling route passes through Podstolice. Its circular route connects Wieliczka, Grabówki, Siercza, Janowice and Sygneczów before returning to Wieliczka. The route therefore offers a way to connect several places on a circular ride; check the exact route markings locally before setting out. For a cultural stop, the historic wooden church in Podstolice is worth a detour from the route.

The 1872 chapel is another named landmark along the cycling route. Its founders, Agnieszka and Mateusz Chlebdowie, are recorded. Together with the detour to the wooden church, it gives the ride a connection to local church architecture as well as its route.

Skiing at Podstolice-Ski

Podstolice-Ski has two Tatrapoma lifts: one is 350 metres long and rises 65 metres; the other is 200 metres long and rises 30 metres. The three slopes are designed for skiers and snowboarders with different levels of experience.

The “Fun School” ski and snowboard school operates at the ski station. Check the lift information with the operator before your trip; you should also confirm that the school is currently operating and available. This keeps the station’s specific offerings in your plans without assuming that their conditions will remain unchanged.

More to Explore in the Wider Wieliczka Destination

The wider Wieliczka destination offers further cultural attractions and routes. The Wieliczka Salt Mine is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Wieliczka and Bochnia Royal Salt Mines.” The underground Miners’ Route is up to two kilometres long and includes seven to 14 mining chambers in the rugged workings around the oldest surviving Regis Shaft. This offers a different focus from the local churches and cycling route in Podstolice.

The routes also differ: the yellow route is a hiking and cycling route between Wieliczka and Dobczyce. The red cycling route forms a 27-kilometre loop through Wieliczka and Siercza. If you are interested in Zamek Żupny, take note of the dated visitor information: a notice dated 8 September 2026 states that the castle and its courtyard are closed for renovation, with the work expected to continue until the end of 2028. Check the latest information before visiting.
