Wadowice offers a range of options for a stay: trails lead to places from Karol Wojtyła’s childhood and youth, museums explore the history of the town and his family, and cycling options vary in length and route. When planning, consider whether you mainly want to explore historic sites, get on a bike or combine the two. This can also help you choose a hotel in Wadowice that suits your travel plans.
Town history along two trails
The Karol Wojtyła Foot Trail has been in place since 2005, is about 4.5 km long and leads to 14 places in Wadowice associated with Karol Wojtyła’s childhood and youth. Galicyjskie Wadowice offers a different historical focus: this trail is about 5 km long and leads to 13 stops exploring the town’s history during the Partitions of Poland. The two themed trails therefore differ not only in length, but also in the history they tell.
At the Wadowice Town Museum, a multimedia exhibition presents the town’s history and everyday life during the interwar period. Visitors can try calligraphy and do arithmetic with an abacus; check the current visitor rules for these activities in advance. The John Paul II Family Home Museum preserves original objects associated with the Wojtyła family. Karol Wojtyła was baptised and received his First Communion at the Minor Basilica in Wadowice. Together, these places offer different ways to explore the town’s history and the history of the Wojtyła family.
