Koziniec brings together religious artworks, local history and landscape features. Wiercimakowo is home to a brick Mass chapel, statues of the Virgin Mary and a former elementary school building; in Stańkowo, there is also a stone depiction of Christ. A children’s folk music ensemble is another part of the area’s cultural profile. The Czerna flows through Koziniec, and four named peaks can be seen from above the village. This places specific cultural features alongside a clearly defined geographical setting.
Landscape and Location
Koziniec lies near the eastern slopes of the Beskid Mały. From above the village, you can see the peaks Skalnica, Kapral, Kamień and Żar. Its proximity to the slopes places Koziniec in its landscape; the peak names specify the view from higher ground. This distinction is important to its geographical setting: the village lies near the slopes, while the four peaks are visible from above Koziniec.
The Czerna flows through Koziniec and is a tributary of the Skawa. This brings together two scales of orientation: the stream runs through the village, while its connection to the Skawa places it within a larger river system. Along with its proximity to the Beskid Mały, this gives a picture of both local and broader geographical features.
Chapels, Statues and Local History
The brick Chapel of Our Lady of the Rosary is in Wiercimakowo and dates from the mid-19th century. Its statue of the Virgin Mary dates from the early 20th century and depicts Mary in white robes with her arms outstretched. The building and statue can thus be distinguished chronologically: the chapel dates from the mid-19th century, and the statue from the early 20th century. Its dedication, clothing and posture make the religious depiction specific.
A stone statue of Our Lady of the Rosary, also from the early 20th century, is another religious motif in Wiercimakowo. Together with the Mass chapel, it creates a clear connection to the Rosary; the stone depiction also adds another material to the area’s cultural features.
Another historical feature is the brick former elementary school building in Wiercimakowo. It dates from 1935. Its former function distinguishes it from the chapel and religious statues: here, the focus is on the village’s former school system.
In Stańkowo, there is a stone sculpture of Christ falling under the cross. The motif depicts a specific moment rather than Christ in general. Compared with the statues of the Virgin Mary in Wiercimakowo, it emphasizes a different religious subject; the two locations thus illustrate different themes in sacred art.
Koziniec is home to the Ludowa Dziecięca Kapela „Kozinianie”, a children’s folk music ensemble. This adds folk music to the area’s cultural features alongside its buildings and sculpture.
