The chapels, the Korkosz Farmstead and the views from Litwinka give Czarna Góra a distinct focus, combining local history with the landscape. Other attractions include mountain bike routes, swimming in the river in summer and a ski lift on the eastern slope of Litwińska Grapa. You can tailor your stay to your cultural, scenic or outdoor interests.

A village in the Polish Spiš

Czarna Góra is one of the fourteen villages of the Polish Spiš and was established around the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries. Its regional affiliation and period of origin give the village a clear historical context. Other points of reference in the history of the village and region include two chapels, each with its own dedication and historical context, as well as a wooden farmstead housing an ethnographic exhibition about a Spiš farm. These different places and themes offer several ways to explore the history of the village and its region.

Chapels and the Korkosz Farmstead

In the part of Czarna Góra above the Białka, a chapel dedicated to the Holy Trinity was built in 1872. In Budzówka, a roadside chapel dedicated to Saint John of Nepomuk was founded after the flood of 1874. The two chapels represent different historical contexts: the first is defined by its year of construction and dedication, the second by its founding after the flood and its dedication. If you are interested in local religious heritage, these offer two specific points of reference from different periods.

The northern part of the village, Zagóra, is home to the wooden farmstead of the once-wealthy Korkosz family. The farmstead houses an ethnographic exhibition about a prosperous Spiš farm from the interwar period. The buildings and exhibition draw attention to distinct yet connected subjects: the Korkosz family and rural life in a particular era. If you plan to visit the exhibition, check the current opening hours in advance.

Views and outdoor activities

From Litwinka, you can enjoy views of four national parks: Tatra, Babia Góra, Gorce and Pieniny. The longest ski lift in the municipality of Bukowina Tatrzańska is located on the eastern slope of Litwińska Grapa. If you plan to use the lift, check its operating status for your travel dates in advance. In summer, visitors to Czarna Góra swim in the river, which is considered clean. Mountain bike routes with different layouts

The 30 km mountain bike route “Białka – Droga Królewska – Czarna Góra” passes through Czarna Góra. Check current trail conditions before setting out. Another mountain bike route in the surrounding area starts and ends in Bukowina Tatrzańska: it descends on a paved road to Czarna Góra, continues through Trybsz to Leśnica, then climbs back through the village to Bukowina Tatrzańska.

This distinguishes two different route options: one has a stated total length of 30 kilometres, while the other is defined by its sequence of villages, starting and ending in Bukowina Tatrzańska. This can help you choose without assuming a particular journey time or level of difficulty. When planning your route, you can first decide whether the stated distance or the described sequence of places matters more to you.
