Milówka lies among the first elevations of the Carpathian Foothills. The area is hilly and has more than 100 hectares of forest. Nature and history come together on Panieńska Góra: the nature reserve protects natural forest communities and sites of protected orchid species, and the remains of the medieval Trzewlin Castle are also located there. For travellers who want to take in both the landscape and local history, this combination makes a distinctive starting point.
Hilly landscape and protected nature
The Panieńska Góra Nature Reserve covers the cadastral area of Milówka. Milówka is also included in the Pogórze Wiśnickie protected area. These two designations refer to different aspects: Panieńska Góra is associated with the protection of natural forest communities and sites of protected orchids, while Pogórze Wiśnickie is an additional protected-area designation for Milówka. The natural character of the area can therefore be understood both through its conservation objectives and its inclusion in a protected area.
The “Horacy” pedunculate oak stands on the border between Milówka and Sukmanie and is listed in the register of natural monuments. While Panieńska Góra represents protected natural forest communities and orchid sites, Horacy is a single, named natural landmark. Those interested in nature can thus encounter both a protected area and a registered tree monument.
Local legends and historical traces
A local legend about a knight who fell in battle is associated with Biała Górka. A Biały Krzyż was erected on Biała Górka in 1886. The legend and the cross point to two different aspects of local history: the story of the knight has been passed down as a local legend, while the cross is associated with a specific year of construction. Biała Górka can therefore be of interest to travellers drawn both to local legends and to dated historical traces.
Another historical trace is the remains of the medieval Trzewlin Castle on Panieńska Góra, which were entered in the monument register in 2004. The dates refer to different events: 1886 marks the erection of the Biały Krzyż, and 2004 the registration of the castle remains. The year 2004 refers to the register entry, not to the castle’s medieval origins.
Routes and forest themes
A tourist trail runs from Panieńska Góra to Wolnica and passes the Filarówka vineyard. There are also tourist trails and paths in the forests around Milówka, which are also associated with MTB competitions. These details describe different route connections: the trail alongside the vineyard has two named reference points, while the forest paths and competitions relate to the wider forest surroundings. If you would rather plan your trip around a specific route or forest and MTB themes, you can take these into account when choosing where to stay.
