At the Church of the Transfiguration in Ładna, the same subject appears in two places: as a fresco on the front façade and in the image above the main altar. Church art, local history and routes through Ładna offer different starting points for planning a trip.
Ładna and the Skrzyszów Municipality
Ładna is one of five Sołectwa, or local administrative units, in the Skrzyszów Municipality. The municipal seat is Skrzyszów. The municipality lies in the eastern part of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship, near the border with the Subcarpathian Voivodeship. Understanding the regional setting can help distinguish Ładna from the municipality’s other localities and landscapes.
Church of the Transfiguration: Architecture and Imagery
The church was built to a design by Zygmunt Honkisz. Its chapel opened in 1991; the church was consecrated on August 6, 2002. These dates mark two separate milestones: the opening of the chapel and the later consecration of the church. The building has three naves.
The subject of the Transfiguration appears both in the fresco on the front façade, which depicts the Transfiguration on Mount Tabor, and in the image above the main altar. The church windows depict John Paul II and Blessed Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński. The chapel also has a moving nativity scene, funded by local resident Zygmunt Augustyn. The architecture, imagery and moving nativity scene can therefore be viewed as distinct aspects of the church’s furnishings.
The area’s history can also be traced through older records: Ładna appears on Austrian maps from the period of the Partitions of Poland and in the 19th-century Geographical Dictionary of the Kingdom of Poland and Other Slavic Countries.
Walking and Cycling Routes in Ładna
As part of a municipal recreation project, a 202-meter-long footpath was built in Ładna. The project announcement is dated September 19, 2023; it also mentions a marked, 6.5-kilometer cycling route through Ładna and Pogórska Wola. Check the footpath’s current condition before visiting and the signage before cycling. The cycling route’s length is clearly specified; no claim is made about its difficulty.
A section of the blue tourist cycling route and other PTTK cycling routes also pass through Ładna. An international road designated E4 also runs through the locality. Check the current road numbering and traffic conditions before setting out. Different planning details are provided for the green-marked Skrzyszów cycling route: it is intended for less experienced mountain bikers and combines hilly and flat terrain.
Waterways and Culture in the Municipality
At the municipal level, Skrzyszów lies in the catchment areas of the Dunajec and Wisłoka rivers; the Wątok is the municipality’s largest watercourse. These details describe the broader geographic setting, not Ładna alone.
In Skrzyszów itself stands the wooden parish church of St. Stanislaus. It was built in 1517 and expanded in the 18th century. Art Nouveau polychrome decorations from 1907 have been preserved alongside older ornamentation. Free parking is available at the parish church, and photography is permitted there. Skrzyszów is also home to a wooden manor house dating from the 19th century. A monument in Kruk Forest commemorates about 400 people murdered by the Nazis. These different sites offer further historical subjects for exploring the municipality’s culture, without equating them with the attractions in Ładna.
