Juszczyn lies picturesquely along the Skawa Valley in the Pasmo Policy range. Juszczyn Polany stretches along the Cadyńka stream at the foot of Mount Naroże. The wooded mountain slopes around the Cadyńka Valley, numerous idyllic clearings, and paths invite visitors to enjoy peace and relaxation throughout the year. At the same time, the area preserves clear traces of an earlier settlement based on grazing and forest clearing: independent hamlets set within the forests are part of its character.

Landscape, hamlets, and hiking trail

The yellow hiking trail crosses a bend in the paved road near Osiedle Zgudowa, at the upper edge of the continuous built-up area. Thus, the historic settlement pattern and a clearly identified section of the hiking trail can be seen together when looking out over Juszczyn. The paths and clearings shape the landscape, while the forest hamlets tell of the area's earlier use.

Traces of a glassworks

A glassworks stood at Jędrzejowa Rola, in the upper part of Juszczyn in the side valley of Cadyńka, during the 17th and 18th centuries. Hucisko now occupies its site. Glass waste and fragments of bricks from the former smelting furnaces can be found in the soil at Hucisko. The history of glassmaking is therefore firmly anchored in both time and place: this historic craft belongs to the upper part of Juszczyn, shaped by the Cadyńka.

Church and chapels

In the lower part of Juszczyn, the parish church of Our Lady of Consolation features modern architecture from the 1970s. Plaques on the bell tower wall commemorate the work of Adolf Chojnacki, a chaplain of Solidarity; the main altar houses a Marian painting from the so-called Żywiec school. Not far from the church stands a stone pillar chapel with an iron casting depicting a Crucifixion scene from the 19th century. Visitors interested in sacred architecture can compare modern church architecture with an older chapel style here.

In Osiedle Zgudowa, at the upper edge of the continuous built-up area, stands an old house chapel dating from the first half of the 19th century. Inside is a stone figure of Christ falling under the cross. A similar motif can be found on the way to Juszczyn Polany: there, a brick-built chapel houses a stone statue of Christ falling under the cross, also from the first half of the 19th century. The same motif thus appears in two different forms of chapel.

Places of remembrance

The Pomnik Straconych monument in Juszczyn commemorates the execution of 13 people in Osiedle Bory during the Second World War. Together with the traces of the glassworks and the chapels, it points to another chapter in the area's history. A description published in 2022 also mentions a wayside figure depicting Christ in Osiedle Bory, dating from the first half of the 19th century.
