Two main themes stand out in Bienkówka: the landscape of valley and wooded slopes, and the history of its buildings and locality, centred on the church, chapel and places of remembrance. When planning your stay, you can decide whether to focus more on walks or historic buildings. The themes complement each other, but each also makes sense on its own.

Valley, Hills and Forest

Bienkówka lies in the valley of the Kamienna River, which local residents call the Skorutówka. Skorutówka is therefore the local name for the same river, not a separate watercourse. The village also lies on the slopes of two hill ranges that surround it to the north and south. The hills are wooded: spruce and fir predominate, while beech, juniper and larch are less common. The landscape can thus be understood through several features at once: the river valley, slopes on both sides and a varied mix of forest trees.

Church Architecture and Places of Remembrance

The parish Church of the Most Holy Trinity is a Baroque stone building. Its massive, four-sided tower extends the nave. The nave is the elongated main part of a church building; the tower continues its line. Another date marking the church’s history is 1793, when local residents began building their own church. A three-storey stone chapel dating from 1876 is another building in Bienkówka. The dates have different roles: 1793 marks the start of the church’s construction by local residents; 1876 is the year of the chapel. This distinction matters to local history: a building initiative and a dated building are two different points in time, even though both belong to the history of religious architecture.

The places of remembrance also commemorate different things. Beside the church in Bieńkówka, young people planted the Freedom Oak in 1923 to commemorate Poland’s regaining of independence. An obelisk in Bieńkówka was erected in 2001 in memory of local victims of the Second World War. A national event and the remembrance of victims from the community thus stand side by side.

Hiking Trails and Navigation

A municipal website from 2016 describes a marked blue hiking trail: it leads north from Bieńkówka towards Lanckorona and south over Koskowa Góra towards Jordanów. The two directions offer different options for planning a hike. Another way to experience nature is the educational trail to Babica, established in Bienkówka and equipped with trail markers and information boards. As a guide to choosing, the trails can be distinguished as follows: the blue trail is defined by its north and south directions, while the educational trail leads to Babica. Since the route information comes from a municipal website dating to 2016, check current signs and trail conditions before setting out.
