Lakeside and Cliffs

Rożnów lies on the right bank of Jezioro Rożnowskie. A walk along the dam offers views of the steep, wooded shores and the lake. Skały Rożnowskie are located by the lakeshore and consist of Ciężkowice sandstone; the cliffs reach heights of up to 30 metres. They are suitable for climbing and walking. According to the municipal description, several climbing routes are suitable for both climbing enthusiasts and beginners. This means there are different activities to choose from when planning an outing: a walk with views of the water and forest, or the cliffs and their climbing routes. When planning, check the guidance on access across private land.

Hiking and Cycling

A blue long-distance hiking trail passes through Rożnów between Zagórze and Wiesiółka. It forms part of a long-distance route from the Radziejowa Range in the Beskid Sądecki Mountains through the Pieniny, Gorce, Beskid Wyspowy and the Rożnów Foothills to Tarnów. The place names locate the section through Rożnów; the list of mountain ranges and landscapes shows the route’s wider course. A cycling route also passes through Rożnów, this one between Majdan and Roztoka. You can distinguish between the two options by activity and route: a long-distance hiking trail that continues further afield, or a cycling route between the places named. Before setting out, check local guidance on current trail conditions.

Outings on the Water

At the bathing area in Rożnów, a municipal description dated 18 August 2025 lists a pier with kayaks and pedal boats. The same dated description lists the “Jaskółka” as an excursion boat on Jezioro Rożnowskie. These details represent different ways to enjoy the water: kayaks and pedal boats at the pier, as well as a trip on the excursion boat. If you are planning a trip, check the current timetable and boat options in advance.

Buildings and History

Rożnów is home to one of Poland’s early modern fortresses with early modern defensive fortifications. The Upper Castle first belonged to the Rożen family, then to Zawisza Czarny, a knight of Władysław Jagiełło, and later to Hetman Jan Amor Tarnowski. This succession of owners runs from a family through a knight to a hetman, providing a chronological thread through the castle’s history. The Stadnicki manor house is also one of Rożnów’s attractions.

The wooden Church of Saint Wojciech dates from the 17th century and was founded by Jan Wielopolski, Castellan of Wojnicz. Its single-nave body, three-sided chancel and roof turret in place of a tower describe its architectural form. A single-nave body has one main nave; the three-sided chancel refers to the end of the church interior. The roof turret is a tower-like structure on the roof and here takes the place of a tower. The church can therefore be understood not only through its age and founding history, but also through its specific architectural features.
