Barcice offers several points of interest for a stay, including its parish church, hiking trails and the Velo 11 cycle route. Architecture and history sit alongside walks and cycling. The green hiking trail is particularly easy to plan around in terms of time; the church combines a distinctive architectural profile with historical details and a protected natural monument right next door. When planning your stay, you can weigh up whether culture, hiking or cycling will be your main focus.

Parish Church: Architecture and History

The parish church in Barcice is an eclectic, three-aisled basilica built of brick and natural stone, with two transept-like chapels. A square tower rises from the façade, with a porch on the ground floor. The term “eclectic” refers to the combination of different design elements. Together with the basilica form and the chapels, these give the church a multifaceted architectural profile; the tower and porch add a distinctive feature to the façade.

The church was built in 1900–1901 to a design by Wiktor Sikorski. Bishop Leon Wałęga consecrated it on 13 October 1901. The high altar, however, dates from around 1600, making it approximately three centuries older than the church building. The building and altar therefore represent markedly different periods in the local history of the church and its furnishings.

A small-leaved lime tree protected as a natural monument stands right next to the parish church. A historic building and a protected natural feature sit directly beside each other here. The lime tree adds a distinct natural-history aspect to the church’s cultural significance.

Hiking Trails and Cycling Connections

The green hiking trail starts at Barcice station at an elevation of 325 m and runs over the scenic slopes of Kanarkówka (671 m) to a junction with the blue Rytro–Przehyba hiking trail. The route is about 7 km long and climbs around 450 m. The ascent is estimated to take about 3 hours and the descent about 2 hours. Together, these estimates amount to around five hours for the ascent and descent; allow extra time for breaks. The ascent therefore takes about an hour longer than the descent—a useful difference to bear in mind when planning your time. It is advisable to check local trail conditions before setting out.

A blue hiking trail also starts in Barcice. It runs via Wola Krogulecka to Makowica and continues into the northern part of the Pasmo Jaworzyny Krynickiej range. You can follow its course by using these named places and the destination area beyond them as reference points. Together with the green trail, it shows that hiking in Barcice is not limited to a single route.

There is a bicycle rest stop on the Velo 11 cycle route in Barcice. Nearby, a cycle connection leads upstream towards Barcice from a footbridge over the Poprad. The rest stop is located on the cycle route in the village, while the bridge connection describes a direction of travel towards the village. Check current local conditions before using this connection.
