Krośnica offers several distinct points of reference for planning a trip: sweeping views across the Nowy Targ Valley and of the Tatra Mountains, as well as a regional driving route that passes through the village. Krośnica is considered a good starting point for excursions to Lake Czorsztyńskie. Anyone considering the village as an overnight destination can distinguish between an excursion to the lake, a drive along the regional route, and the landscape and cultural features of the area. These topics relate to different aspects of planning: the destination, the route, and the character of the village.

Park Roads and Traffic Rules

In Pieniny National Park, motor vehicles and horse-drawn vehicles are permitted only on the county road between Krośnica and Sromowce Wyżne; the park’s other roads are closed to these vehicles. Cycling is permitted on the same county road. When planning, consider the road and the mode of transport together: the rules specify one particular connection and do not grant blanket permission for motor vehicles and horse-drawn vehicles throughout the park.

Routes and Directions

A regional driving route passes through Krośnica; the road continues to Czorsztyn and the ruins of Wronin Castle. The route description also names Sromowce Niżne as a destination; the Dunajec River rafting trip begins there. The driving route therefore provides directions to several named destinations, while the rafting trip is specifically linked to its starting point in Sromowce Niżne.

If you are coming from Krościenko, turn left in Krośnica at the signs for Niedzica and Sromowce, then continue towards Czorsztyn after two kilometres. Check the signs locally if you take this route. The directions specify both the turnoff and the change of direction after two kilometres.

For the shortened circular route around Lake Czorsztyńskie, travel from Dębno along Route 969 and over Snozka Pass to Krośnica. There, the route turns right towards Sromowce Wyżne; return to Dębno via Niedzica, Falsztyn, and Frydman. The route from Krościenko and the circular route starting in Dębno differ in their starting points and route types: the first describes an approach towards Czorsztyn, while the second is a loop that ends back in Dębno. So when choosing between them, the key question is whether you are planning an approach or a circular trip around the lake.

Landscape, History, and Rest Areas

From Krośnica, there are expansive views across the Nowy Targ Valley and of the Tatra Mountains. The valley and the mountains offer two distinct views and provide a tangible sense of the landscape. The area’s cultural history also has different points of reference: in the past, some residents made their living from pastoral farming; the Pieniny highlanders trace their roots to Krośnica. One reference concerns the former livelihood of some residents, while the other concerns the highlanders’ origins.

Gronniki, in the Krośnica village administrative district (sołectwo), is one of the locations of the “Grzybki” rest areas. This links the name of the rest areas to a specific location for visitors finding their way around the area.
