A 170-metre-long wooden boardwalk in the Bór na Czerwonem Nature Reserve ends at a viewing platform over the moor; from there, you can see the Tatra Mountains and the Gorce Mountains. The educational trail showcases a natural side of Nowy Targ, while marked cycling and hiking trails, as well as cultural history, offer further themes to consider when planning your trip. This lets you tailor your stay to the things that interest you.
Choose cycling routes and hiking trails by starting point
Both cycling routes, the Trail Around the Tatras and the Velo Dunajec, pass through Nowy Targ. For two marked hiking trails, the starting point and destination can help you find your bearings: the green trail leads from the Oleksówki district to the PTTK mountain hut on Turbacz. The blue trail leads from the Kowaniec district to the Koliba hut on Łapsowa Polana. You can begin by comparing the hikes based on their different starting points and destinations; trail conditions may vary. Check local conditions before setting out.
The wider Nowotarski destination area provides approximate figures for both hiking trails. For the green trail from Oleksówki to the PTTK hut on Turbacz, it gives a length of about 7.5 kilometres and a duration of approximately three hours. For the trail from Kowaniec to Koliba na Łapsowej Polanie, it gives a distance of about 1.5 kilometres and an ascent time of around 25 minutes. These figures are approximate. For the second trail, the stated time refers specifically to the ascent.
Moorland educational trail with views of two mountain ranges
In the Bór na Czerwonem Nature Reserve, the educational trail follows a 170-metre-long wooden boardwalk that ends at a viewing platform over the moor. From the platform, you can see the Tatra Mountains and the Gorce Mountains. In September 2025, the city reported that the educational trail had been modernised and its information boards replaced. Check local access conditions before visiting.
Printing arts and gallery history
The Printing Museum provides information about printing techniques, art and traditions, as well as the history of Nowy Targ and the region as a whole. The JATKI Art Gallery offers a different cultural focus: it began exhibiting in September 1991 with a show of works by artists from Nowy Targ. The Printing Museum focuses on printing and regional history; the gallery’s history begins with an exhibition by local artists. If you want to plan your trip around art and history, the two institutions offer different points of interest.
Architectural history and local ice cream tradition
U Borzanka is a historic inn with a coach house dating from the late 18th century. The building was constructed from dressed stone and brick, then plastered. Its architectural features include a portico supported by two round columns and a shingle roof. Traditional ice cream from well-known outlets in the city centre is also considered a Nowy Targ tradition. If you are planning to visit a particular outlet, check its current opening hours.
This choice lets you plan the rest of your trip around your reason for travelling, without prescribing a fixed itinerary.
