Two hiking trails lead from Łopuszna to Turbacz, the highest peak in the Gorce Mountains. Other highlights include a pond formed by a landslide, wooded mountain slopes and historic wooden buildings. To help plan your stay, first consider whether you would rather focus on hiking trails and scenery or on cultural history.
Mountain scenery and trails
The Łopuszna Valley features deeply cut valleys with 350–400 m of elevation difference, steep wooded mountain slopes, clear mountain streams and forest clearings along hiking trails. Well-known clearings on mountain terraces and ridges include Chłapkowa, Chowańcowa, Srokówka, Wysznia, Jankówki, Cioski and Gawrowa.
The older, long-established Seweryn Goszczyński Trail leads from Łopuszna via Zarębek Niżni and Zarębek Średni to the Srokówki Clearing near Pucołowski Stawek. It then runs east of Wysznia (1,103 m) to Kiczora and continues via Hala Długa to Turbacz. Less experienced hikers can take walking routes from the village centre to Zarębek Wyżni via the Goderman rise (705 m), or to Mount Chrobowska (also known as Gobrowska) and Koszary Harklowskie. Check current trail conditions before setting out.
Pucołowski Stawek
Pucołowski Stawek is considered a geomorphological feature and a great rarity in the Gorce Mountains landscape. It formed when a landslide from the slopes of Wysznia dammed the natural water outflow. A short path leads to the pond from the scenic Srokówki Clearing. From there, you can enjoy far-reaching views across the Nowy Targ Basin and the Tatra Mountains.
Wooden architecture and religious art
The wooden manor house in Łopuszna has log walls that were originally clad with boards, as well as a porch and a dormer. The Church of the Holy Trinity is a Gothic wooden church with a straight-ended chancel and an external chapel. The main altar of the wooden parish church contains a triptych painted on wood dating from the mid-15th century; the central panel depicts the Coronation of Mary.
Tischner Memorial Room and Klamerus Cottage
The lower museum section of the Tischner Memorial Room contains mementos of the priest, his favourite objects, manuscripts, books and photographs. Visiting arrangements may change; if you plan to visit the memorial room, check access in advance. The century-old Klamerus Cottage, relocated from the village centre, has been furnished with the interior of a peasant home from the early 20th century. Its exhibition is currently closed to visitors.
Choose the focus of your stay
If you are looking for accommodation in Łopuszna, it helps to decide on a focus first: are you mainly interested in the trails to Turbacz and the scenery, or would you rather make the manor house, wooden church and triptych the centre of your visit? This lets you tailor your plans to local attractions without having to fit the different themes into a fixed daily itinerary.
