Three specific themes are at the heart of Sieraków: the history of the manor house, stone religious sculptures and a green-marked cycling loop that passes the manor house. If you would like to include architectural history and cycling in your plans, you will find clear points of interest here. When choosing a place to stay, you can weigh up whether the manor house, the sculptures or the signposted loop is the deciding factor for you.
The history of the manor house
The present-day Late Classicist manor house in Sieraków was built in 1847 and extended up to the beginning of the 20th century. The history of its site goes further back: an inventory drawn up in 1694 when Sieraków was sold already mentions a manor house. The present-day building was erected on the site of a much older property. This makes it possible to distinguish chronologically between the early reference to a manor house on the site and the construction history of the present-day house. From 1986 to 2001, the manor house housed a sanatorium and allergy hospital. This use belongs to a later, clearly defined period in the building’s history.
Park and stone sculptures
The manor house stands in a park and woodland area covering several hectares, with mature trees. An English landscape park with numerous old trees surrounds the building. In the park next to the manor house stands a stone figure of the Merciful Jesus, dating from around 1847. Its approximate date is close to the year the present-day house was built. The landscaped grounds and a single stone object thus represent different scales of local history: the park and woodland on the one hand, and a figure with a specific date on the other.
Another stone wayside shrine depicts the Virgin Mary and other saints. It stands in Sieraków at the intersection of the Dziekanowice–Wieliczka–Nowa Wieś roads, near the kindergarten. Jakub and Katarzyna Dziewońscy commissioned it in 1858. This wayside shrine brings together several specific aspects: its religious depictions, its location at a crossroads and its two named patrons. In comparison with the figure in the park, it offers a distinct perspective on the town’s stone sculptures.
Cycling the Pętla wokół Dobczyc
One specific cycling option is the green-marked Pętla wokół Dobczyc loop. It is 18.5 kilometres long and passes the manor house in Sieraków. The loop can therefore be included as a separate part of your travel plans; its length provides a clear reference point when choosing your route. Check local conditions before setting off. In Sieraków, the route combines a signposted cycling trail with a landmark whose construction and history of use can be considered independently.
