Tenczynek lies on the Tenczyński Ridge and borders the Zwierzyniec Forest to the southeast. Several named trails run through the village; geological features and historic buildings also converge here. This offers different ways to discover Tenczynek, from longer trail routes to details at the church, bell tower and former industrial buildings.

Trails of different total lengths

The 30-kilometre trail through the Mnikowska Valley passes through Tenczynek. The 62-kilometre Jura Valley and Chrzanów Land Trail also runs through the village. There is also the 74-kilometre circular trail around Chrzanów, which includes the Szlak Puszczy Dulowskiej section that passes through Tenczynek. In each case, the figure refers to the total length of the trail or circular route, not just the section in Tenczynek.

The Quest Tenczyn, Tenczynek … Journey to the Castle Hill takes a different approach. This excursion passes through Tenczynek and the area around Tenczyn Castle and explores the history of the region. If you prefer a historical focus when choosing a route, you can compare this experience with the trails described by length: one description presents a theme, while the others give the total length of the trails.

Rocks and geological features

Among the distinctive named natural and landscape features is Skałka pod sosną, a natural monument in Tenczynek. The rock is 4.5 metres high and consists of conglomerate containing fragments of various rocks.

The Nowa Krystyna quarry and the Na Czerwieńcu geological outcrop are also located in Tenczynek, within the context of Tenczyński Landscape Park. Together with the natural monument, they offer different geological points of interest: a rock, a quarry and an outcrop. These names add a distinct perspective on Tenczynek to the trails. The Tenczyński Ridge and the Zwierzyniec Forest bordering it to the southeast also define the named landscape setting of the village.

Church, bell tower and architectural history

The oldest historic monument in Tenczynek is the Baroque parish church of St Catherine. It was built between 1728 and 1742 and features 18th-century Régence altars inside. The main altar contains a copy of Raphael Santi’s painting The Transfiguration of Christ, brought from Rome in 1723. The construction period, altar styles and painting bring together different aspects of the church’s history, rather than focusing on just one architectural detail.

Beside the church stands a detached wooden bell tower, built before 1748. It is also part of the Wooden Architecture Trail. The bell tower thus connects its immediate location beside St Catherine’s Church with a broader architectural theme. The church and tower form a clearly identified pair within the historic village, while their different construction details can also be considered separately.

Traces of literature and industry

In Rzeczki, a hamlet of Tenczynek, stands Villa Eliza, dating from the late 19th century. It belonged to the physician and Jagiellonian University professor Stanisław Pareński; Stanisław Wyspiański and Tadeusz Boy-Żeleński were guests there. The site thus connects a building from this period with figures from literature and academia. The documented relationships are specific: Pareński was the owner, and the two writers were guests.

Alongside these literary connections, historic industrial architecture from the 19th and early 20th centuries has been preserved in Tenczynek. This includes a brewery and mining buildings. Together with the villa, church and bell tower, these show that the village’s history is not reflected only in religious architecture: residential and industrial buildings are also among its notable historic features. Depending on whether your interests lie more in nature, architectural history, literature or industry, Tenczynek offers various specific starting points for planning your trip.
