Ropa lies in the valley of the Ropa, beside the river of the same name, and is surrounded by wooded hills. At the same time, the village offers different starting points for an exploration: church art, a historic manor complex, a miniature park, monuments and traces of the oil industry. If you are looking for holiday apartments in Ropa, you can choose your destination based on which of these themes you want to shape your stay.

Ropa on Two Routes

Ropa lies on the Karpacko-Galicyjski Szlak Naftowy between Gorlice and Libusza, as well as on the Wawrzka–Gorlice, Dworzec PKP hiking trail. The names reflect different focuses: one route has the oil industry in its name, while the other is explicitly a hiking trail. This makes it possible to connect Ropa both with the region’s oil heritage and with a hiking route. For your specific plans, it is advisable to check the route details, as they may change.

Church and Building History

The parish church of St. Michael the Archangel was built in 1761. Two masonry towers were added around 1800. The dates therefore mark different phases of construction: the building of the church and the later addition of the towers. The church also contains, among other things, sculptures by Antoni Hybel, a local sculptor, painter and lutenist. These works add an artistic dimension to the building and connect it with a figure associated with Ropa.

Manor House, Gardens and Manor Courtyard

The Baroque-classical manor house in Ropa was extensively remodelled in 1803 at the initiative of Stanisław Siemieński and stands in an English-style park. The manor complex is surrounded by a rock garden, an aviary garden and a herb garden. Its courtyard houses an open-air exhibition featuring sculptures of people associated with the history of the village. Each detail offers a different perspective: the manor house’s style and remodelling highlight its architectural history, while the gardens and exhibition draw attention to the outdoor space and local history.

Architecture in Miniature

The miniature park features an open-air exhibition of 30 miniatures at a scale of 1:25. It presents religious buildings and secular architecture from the Polish and Slovak parts of the Beskid Niski. Religious and secular forms of architecture are brought together in the same exhibition. This offers a different perspective from viewing individual buildings in Ropa: the miniature park focuses on a selection of buildings from both parts of the Beskid Niski.

Monuments and Oil History

The historical heritage includes First World War Cemetery No. 72, designed by Hans Mayr. The Grunwald Monument takes a different form: erected in 1910, it is shaped like an artificial rock crowned with a cross. The cemetery and the monument have different emphases: the designer is named for the former, while the description of the latter focuses on its form and cross. The numerous hand-dug oil wells and oil boreholes in Ropa reveal another aspect of the village’s history. They add the local oil heritage to the themes of church art and architecture.

Jarmark Świętego Michała

The Jarmark Świętego Michała is held in September in the manor courtyard. The programme includes food tastings and presentations of crafts and folk art. The fair therefore offers a different way to experience Ropa than its churches, monuments or architecture: it focuses on tastings and craft presentations. If you want to plan your trip around the event, check the exact date in advance.
