Turzno offers several ways to explore its history: a neoclassical chapel in the town centre, two visits by Fryderyk Chopin and the building history of the garden pavilion Zameczek. The 16-hectare landscape park offers another focus. When planning your trip, you can choose between architectural and musical history, trees and cycling. The relevant dates range from the chapel’s founding in 1800 and Chopin’s visits in 1825 and 1827 to the pavilion’s reconstruction in 2011 and the opening of a cycle path in 2020.
The Chapel and Chopin’s Visits
The neoclassical chapel stands in the town centre and was founded in 1800 by the Jeżewski family. Its central location and founding year provide a specific architectural point of reference for the town’s history. It is particularly worth exploring if you are interested in the town’s historic character. Fryderyk Chopin visited Turzno in 1825 and again in 1827. The two visits were two years apart and establish a connection between Chopin and Turzno through specific dates. For music enthusiasts, this offers a way to connect a biographical story with the buildings and the periods in which they were built.
The Zameczek Garden Pavilion
A second chapel is now located in the neo-Gothic garden pavilion Zameczek behind the palace. The pavilion was built around 1850 under Count Augustyn Działowski, fell into disrepair after the war and was reconstructed in 2011. Weddings are frequently held in the chapel. Zameczek thus differs from the chapel in the town centre, founded in 1800, not only in its neo-Gothic style but also in its present-day function. The Pałac Romantyczny hotel and conference complex in Turzno is another part of the town’s more recent history. It was officially opened on 14 February 2012.
The Palace Park and Its Variety of Trees
The English landscape park around the palace covers 16 hectares and dates from the first half of the 19th century. It includes 54 coniferous and deciduous tree species, including Douglas fir, Caucasian wingnut, American tulip tree and swamp oak. These examples make the variety of species more tangible than a simple area figure, while the 16 hectares indicate the park’s scale. If you are interested in landscape history, the park combines a historical context with a clearly defined natural theme. Unlike the chapel and pavilion, the focus here is not on architecture but on the green space and its variety of trees.
Walking and Cycling
During a PTTK hiking excursion on 8 July 2026, participants walked along the paths of the palace park. Along the way, they completed tasks from the quest “Turzna historia niezwykła” to learn about local history. This particular outing combined walking on the park paths with a focused exploration of the past. For cycling enthusiasts, the official opening of the Różankowo–Lulkowo and Kamionki Małe–Turzno cycle route is another local point of interest: it took place in Turzno on 10 September 2020. If you plan to include the route in a trip, check its current condition in advance.
