Tylice brings together a manor house and park ensemble, Early Neolithic rondels and a cycling route that passes through the village. This offers different interests to choose from when planning your trip: architectural and landscape history, archaeological traces and cycling.
Manor House and Park History
The manor house in Tylice was built in the third quarter of the 19th century. The manor house and park ensemble covers 2.20 hectares and is a remnant of a landscape park dating from the mid-19th century. The area given refers to the ensemble of house and park; the dates identify different aspects of its history. The building’s history and the landscape’s history are thus part of the same ensemble, but each has its own chronology.
A map from 1909 showed a park, a pond and farm buildings by the manor house, surrounded by a moat. There was an island in the pond, connected to the bank on the manor-house side by a wooden bridge. For a cultural and historical perspective, it is not only the building itself that is of interest: the historic design of its surroundings is also part of the ensemble’s history.
Architecture and Orientation
In 1909, the manor house had a small extension on its eastern side, which was probably used as a manager’s house. This presumed function adds a possible further purpose to the ensemble’s architectural history. Two details are important for orientation: the manor house and the mini-park are on the east side of the road to Zakrzewko; the manor house’s entrance front faces south. The location by the road and the orientation of the front refer to different points of reference.
Early Neolithic Rondels
Traces of Early Neolithic circular structures known as rondels have been discovered in the fields of Tylice. Rondels consist of several concentric, circular ditches. The rondels associated with Łysomice and Tylice are considered some of the oldest examples of monumental architecture in human history. The newly discovered rondels in the Łysomice municipality are characteristically arranged as three circular ditches with a shared centre.
The archaeological theme offers a different historical perspective from the manor house and landscape park. If you are interested in the history of the village, you can explore Early Neolithic traces alongside the building and park history of the 19th century.
Cycling Through Tylice
A cycling route from Toruń to Chełmża, with a branch to Kamionki Małe, passes through Tylice. It is one of the cycling routes in the Łysomice municipality. The municipality’s cycling routes are used by residents and cycling enthusiasts from across Toruń County. Before setting off on a current ride, check the route details.
This gives you two different focuses for planning your trip: the historic local landscape around the manor house and park, or a bike ride along the route that passes through Tylice. Which aspect you prioritise depends on whether you want to focus your stay more on the village’s cultural history or on cycling.
