Church history, railway buildings, nature and a theme park combining science, education and entertainment give Solec Kujawski a variety of attractions. To plan your visit, you can start by considering your interests: historic buildings offer a timeline stretching from the 19th century to the middle of the 20th century; the nature trail, nearby dune and JuraPark offer other thematic highlights.

Architectural history between church and railway

The Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus was built in 1845–1847 and served as a Protestant church until 1945. Today it is the oldest brick building in the city. Its construction period, former use and present-day status come together here to form a clearly defined chapter of the city’s history.

The Stary Dworzec PKP adds a later construction date to this picture. The brick railway station building was built in 1898 and has two and a half storeys. Unlike the church, here a single year of construction is paired with a specific feature of the building’s design. The railway water tower on Dworcowa Street dates from the second half of the 19th century. Together, these buildings offer different starting points for exploring cultural history: the church’s history of use, the station’s architectural form and the water tower’s broader time frame. The reference to two and a half storeys can be understood as two full floors and a further, partially formed storey. It makes the station’s vertical proportions more concrete than simply stating its year of construction, and adds another architectural feature to the reference to its brick construction.

Nature trail, dune and JuraPark

The “Ku źródliskom” educational nature trail is 3.5 km long. Nearby, Biała Góra is a sandy dune with pine forest along a route between localities. These nature destinations are described in different ways: the trail has a specific length, while Biała Góra is distinguished by its landscape of sand and pine forest. If you want to experience nature, you can choose between a named route and a landscape feature.

JuraPark Solec Kujawski is a theme park combining science, education and entertainment. The Muzeum im. Karola Sabatha, which has one of Poland’s largest fossil collections, is located in the park. This brings together two related but distinct highlights: the park brings together several subject areas, while the museum focuses on fossils.
