In Brodnicki, protected landscapes and historic buildings are two distinct travel interests.

River Valleys, Lake Basins, and Trails

The rural Gmina Brodnica includes a substantial part of the OChK Doliny Drwęcy, with ecologically valuable river valleys and lake basins. A municipal plan from 2026 puts this area at 4,893.53 hectares. This figure refers to the portion within the rural Gmina, not the entire landscape area.

Another area to consider is the Brodnicki Park Krajobrazowy. It covers 17,000 hectares and extends across the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, with 12,349 hectares, and the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, with 4,336 hectares, as well as six municipalities: Zbiczno, Jabłonowo Pomorskie, Brodnica, Brzozie, Biskupiec Pomorski, and Kurzętnik. These figures represent two distinct spatial scales: the portion of the OChK within the rural Gmina and the landscape park spanning multiple municipalities.

In the Gmina Brodnica section of Brodnicki Park Krajobrazowy, hiking, kayaking, and cycling are possible. Hiking, cycling, canoeing, and educational trails have also been designated in the Gmina Brodnica. These options offer different ways to explore the area on foot, by bicycle, or on the water; check the conditions for your specific route before traveling.

A notice from 2021 gives July 25 as the date when a combined pedestrian and cycling path from Brodnica to Osiek officially opened. According to the notice, the path officially opened to pedestrians and cyclists on July 25. If you plan to include it in your itinerary, it is a good idea to check its local condition in advance.

Church, Bridge, and Harvest Festival Tradition

The architectural history includes the parish church pw. św. św. Fabiana i Sebastiana. It is a Gothic stone church dating from the first half of the 14th century and has been protected since 1936. With its Gothic stone construction from the first half of the 14th century, the church is an example of medieval religious architecture; it has been protected since 1936.

The historic steel-girder bridge in Szabda crosses the Drwęca and lies on the border with the town of Brodnica. It was built in 1952, is listed under monument number A/1351, and is a remnant of the Brodnica–Ostrowite narrow-gauge railway. In addition to its construction, the bridge can also be understood through its connection to the former railway line. The church represents medieval religious architecture, while the bridge reflects the region’s former railway infrastructure.

The Dożynki Gminne (municipal harvest festival) are also part of the Gmina Brodnica’s event history. They were first held in 2005 and have been organized repeatedly, up to a twelfth edition. If a festival is important for your travel dates, check the current schedule before making plans.
