A visit to Aleksandrów Kujawski opens up two themes: forest and river landscapes, and the history of a border railway station alongside places of urban remembrance. This shift offers different ways to explore the city without prescribing a set itinerary.
Forest and riparian woodland
The northern and northeastern parts of Aleksandrów Kujawski belong to the Puszcza Bydgoska forest complex. The landscape there is shaped mainly by mixed forests and pure pine stands. Along the Tążyna, the landscape retains a natural character and is closely associated with a riparian woodland habitat. The nature themes thus range from a larger forest complex to a specific stretch of river: Puszcza Bydgoska represents the forest composition, while the Tążyna represents the riparian woodland habitat.
The “Świerczyna” nature and educational trail lies within the city limits and is 2.5 kilometres long. Its length provides a clear point of reference for planning; check local conditions before your visit. The trail adds a clearly defined route to the landscape themes, without implying a walking time.
Palace Park and protected trees
The Trojanowski Palace is a tourist attraction designated by the city. Eleven oaks in its park are recognised as natural monuments. The park and palace grounds are also described as suitable for family walks because of their attractive location and varied vegetation. This brings together a specific collection of natural monuments and grounds that make a suitable destination for a family walk.
A separate group of protected trees stands on the grounds of Zespół Szkół Nr 1 Centrum Kształcenia Praktycznego: twelve natural monuments, comprising one lime tree and eleven oaks. The two groups of trees are easy to distinguish—the eleven oaks in the palace park and the twelve protected trees on the school grounds.
The railway station as part of the city's history
The railway station complex is part of the city's cultural heritage and is connected with its historical development as a Russian-Prussian border station. The original station building was constructed between 1860 and 1862. In February 1863, secret diplomatic correspondence concerning Russian-Prussian cooperation against the Polish uprising was seized at the station. Thus, alongside its architectural history, the station is associated with specific political events.
The restored station building houses the municipal tourist information point and the Aleksandrowska Izba Historyczna. The Izba preserves memorabilia relating to the history of Aleksandrów Kujawski. If you wish to visit these facilities, it is advisable to check their current opening hours in advance. The station is located at 2 Wojska Polskiego Street, 87-700 Aleksandrów Kujawski, and is accessible to people with reduced mobility.
Architecture and places of remembrance
The parish Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord was built in the Neo-Gothic style. It contains the 17th-century painting “Crucifixion,” from the Italian school. The building thus brings together Neo-Gothic architecture and an older work of art. The former Salesian College dates from the construction phases of 1913–1916 and 1927, offering another perspective on the city's architectural history.
Places of remembrance also include the Ukrainian Military Cemetery on Narutowicza Street, entered in the register of monuments on 7 June 1995, and a monument to Polish aviators. A commemorative plaque recalls the persecution and suffering of Polish aviators. These sites complement the history of architecture with different forms of remembrance.
Gatherings and events
Since 1993, people of different cultures and languages, as well as members of various religions and churches, have gathered at Kozacka Mogila on the first Saturday in June. If you plan to attend, check the latest announcement. The International Music Festival “Stacja Aleksandrów” also brings together artists, residents and visitors: its 20th edition took place in Aleksandrów Kujawski from 21 to 23 August 2026.
