The Warta is Poland’s third-largest river and flows through the southern part of Wrzesiński County. Along the county’s southern edge, it is also a focus for canoe tourism. Canoe trips take place on the Warta, and a canoe route runs through the county from Dłusk to the mouth of the Lutynia. The river landscape and waterways give the region a clear appeal for travellers interested in nature and water-based activities.

Cycling and hiking routes on different scales

Several types of cycling routes are described. A 176.2-kilometre main cycle route is planned to run around the entire county. In addition, a section of the Transwielkopolska Cycle Route passes through the county between Miłosław, Chlebowo and Pogorzelica. The Nadwarciański Cycle Route runs here via Orzechowo, Czeszewo, Szczodrzejewo, Spławie, Tarnowa, Pyzdry, Białobrzeg and Wrąbczynek. These places give a concrete overview of the cycle route’s course, while the planned circular route takes the entire county as its scope.

The southern part of the county has numerous hiking and cycling routes for visitors. Two sections of the Żerkowsko-Czeszewska “Ósemka” hiking trail also cross the southern areas. The routes can therefore be distinguished by their described form: one circles the entire county, while others are identified as named sections or route itineraries. We recommend checking the signage for the Nadwarciański Cycle Route and the Transwielkopolska Cycle Route locally; you should also check the markings for the “Ósemka” there.

Early Piast history and architecture

In Grzybowo, history is combined with a special educational project. The Gród w Grzybowie is one of the largest stronghold complexes built during the formation of the early Piast state. GAMA – Grzybowska Akademia Małego Archeologa – is aimed at children, who learn about the work of archaeologists, archaeological finds and their history through play. If you are planning your visit specifically around GAMA, check the current programme in advance, as details may change.

The Marzanna event in Grzybowo also has its own distinctive character. It is held regularly outdoors, always on 21 March, and includes educational and historical games and activities. If this date is important to your plans, we recommend checking the annual programme before your trip.

Another cultural highlight is the Muzeum Regionalne Ziemi Pyzdrskiej in Pyzdry, one of two regional museums in Wrzesiński County. In Kołaczkowo, the Neoclassical palace draws attention to an architectural detail: its portico has eight columns, and the building dates from the early 19th century. The museum, stronghold complex and palace offer different ways to explore history—from the regional museum and early Piast fortifications to a Neoclassical building.

Nature in the county and in Greater Poland

The Czeszewski Las nature reserve is a natural destination for visitors interested in Wrzesiński County. If you broaden your view to include the landscapes of the wider Greater Poland travel destination, the Wielkopolski National Park offers another nature-focused experience. It protects a glacier-shaped landscape with forest and lake ecosystems among meadows, fields and erratic boulders. Its 18 strict protection areas preserve glacial landforms, near-natural plant communities and the animals associated with them. This regional perspective complements the county’s river and route themes with another view of Greater Poland’s natural environment.
