Barchlin lies on the edge of the Leszno Plateau and the Warsaw–Berlin ice-marginal valley. The Koźlak windmill, dating from 1824, and the manor house, built in the form of a Neo-Renaissance villa, give the village two clearly identifiable historical landmarks. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can see whether this combination of landscape and architectural history suits your stay.

There are 22 archaeological sites in Barchlin. They add an archaeological dimension to the village’s history alongside its historic buildings. Its historical profile therefore extends beyond individual buildings.

Landscape, Park and Trees

The manor house park in Barchlin dates from the late 19th century and includes a pond, a stately white poplar with a trunk circumference of about 370 cm, and an oak with a trunk circumference of 310 cm. A yew designated as a natural monument stands on the lawn in front of the manor house. It divides into four trunks and has a trunk circumference of 230 cm. In the northwest of Barchlin, the landscaped park is approximately rectangular and covers an area of 1.6 ha.

The green spaces vary in scale: 1.6 ha describes the landscaped park, while the trunk circumferences and the yew’s four trunks are individual natural features. Thus, an area measurement sits alongside specific details about the trees.

Windmill and Manor House

The Koźlak windmill in Barchlin dates from 1824 and has historical, technical and architectural value. It has been listed in the monument register since 28 March 1988 under number 1087/A; the register information was current as of 30 June 2024. The year of construction and the date of registration mark two different points in its history: the mill was built in 1824, and its register entry began in 1988.

The manor house, in the form of a Neo-Renaissance villa, stands in the northern part of Barchlin. The landowner at the time, Fryderyk Ksawery Speichert, built it in 1893. Outbuildings dating from the late 19th century are located near the manor house. Neo-Renaissance refers to an architectural style inspired by Renaissance models; the term describes the building’s style, while 1893 is the villa’s specific year of construction.

Two specific construction years provide a basis for comparison: 1824 for the mill and 1893 for the villa. The outbuildings and manor house park, by contrast, are generally dated to the late 19th century. This distinguishes exact construction years from a broader period designation.

In comparison, the windmill provides a technical focal point; the manor house, with its Neo-Renaissance style, former landowner and nearby outbuildings, offers a different perspective on the village’s history. If you enjoy comparing different architectural styles, Barchlin offers more than one historical landmark to explore.

Cycling and Leisure Facilities

A municipal report states that a cycle path between Bucz and Barchlin opened in August 2024. If you plan to include this route, check a current route planner first.

As part of the expansion and modernisation of Barchlin’s social, cultural and sports centre, a fire-pit circle with benches was created. An outdoor fitness area with three pieces of equipment, intended for seniors and other social groups, was also built there. If you would like to use either facility, check its current availability in advance.
