In Śrem County, cycling routes reveal more than one kind of landscape: they run along lakes, through forests and to places whose appeal comes from natural or cultural history. When choosing a route, you can focus on the themes that interest you most along the way—water and protected areas, terrain shaped by the Ice Age, or traces of historical figures. The routes offer different highlights; no single tour has to represent the entire region.

Cycling routes among lakes, forests and history

The 28.6-kilometre “Dziesięciu Jezior” cycling route runs along a chain of lakes west of Dolsk. It passes the Miranowo nature reserve, which protects meadow and reed vegetation, and continues to Cichowo. There you can see reconstructed wooden buildings from Soplicowo, which were used as a filming location for Andrzej Wajda’s film “Pan Tadeusz.” This route brings together a chain of lakes, protected vegetation and a cultural site with a film history.

The “Pagórki Dolskie” cycling route reveals a different landscape: it runs through an area shaped by glacial landforms, with terminal moraine hills and the largest concentration of erratic boulders in this part of Greater Poland. If you would rather use the road surface as your guide than the geological landscape, the 19.7-kilometre “Polnymi drogami” cycling route offers a specific detail: it runs mostly on paved roads and field tracks. Their condition can vary with the season.

The “Łęgi Nadwarciańskie” route also puts the landscape centre stage. It leads to the floodplain-forest-lined banks of the Warta, into the lake district of the Kórnik–Zaniemyśl tunnel valley, and to groups of old oaks considered especially impressive in Greater Poland. Starting in Jaszkowo, the “Konwaliowy” cycling route runs exclusively through forests in the Rogalin Landscape Park. It also leads to the “Krajkowo” nature reserve, which protects floodplains and former channels of the Warta, wet meadows, ash-elm floodplain forest and fresh mixed forest. Around 120 bird species have been recorded there. Check local information before setting out for details about access to the reserve and current trail conditions.

Other routes combine nature and culture in their own ways. The “Śladami Józefa Wybickiego” cycling route connects places associated with the life of General Józef Wybicki and runs through Śrem County. The “Księdza Piotra Wawrzyniaka” cycling route also leads to places associated with this prominent figure and passes through the county. The area has an extensive network of cycling routes; check local information for route details before setting off.

The Warta, protected areas and regional discoveries

In Śrem, the “Promenada nad Wartą” is a walking and cycling path along the Warta. It offers a different perspective on the river from the routes through floodplains, forests and protected areas. In Śrem County, the landscape includes not only lakes and floodplains along the Warta, but also parks, forests, natural monuments and architectural heritage sites. Several marked walking trails run through the county and its immediate surroundings.

Recreation by the water is considered one aspect of tourism in Śrem County, drawing on existing accommodation, dining and supporting infrastructure. This regional focus complements the many opportunities offered by the area's varied landscapes, without suggesting that every route has to offer the same experience. When comparing routes, then, it is not just about distance, but also whether you want to discover lakes, forests, floodplains or cultural heritage.

A palace and a museum as traces of culture

In Błociszewo, the Kęszycki Palace is a neo-Rococo palace dating from 1893, surrounded by an eighteenth-century landscaped park. The Śrem Museum collects exhibits on the history of the town of Śrem and the region. These two examples illustrate different aspects of cultural heritage: a historic building in a designed parkland setting, and a collection focused on the town and region.

The cycling routes also help visitors explore the area's history. Their names refer to Józef Wybicki and Piotr Wawrzyniak, while the route to Cichowo leads to the reconstructed wooden buildings of Soplicowo, a filming location for “Pan Tadeusz.” Together with the landscape routes, they create a varied picture of Śrem County: from the Warta and its floodplains to lakes, forests, erratic boulders and places of cultural significance.
