Szydłowiec is located in Powidz Landscape Park on Lake Budzisławskie. The park includes the municipality of Orchowo and protects a young-glacial landscape with numerous post-glacial lakes, fish habitats, wetlands for birds and rare wetland plants. When planning your trip, you can focus on the wider park landscape, cycling routes or local history.

Compare and plan cycling routes

The blue Orchowski Trail connects Orchowo with Szydłowiec and passes through Wólka Orchowska, Linówiec, Mlecze, Suszewo and Osówiec; it is 25.9 kilometres long. The black-marked Cztery Jeziora route is 28.7 kilometres long and has an average journey time of two hours. It is therefore 2.8 kilometres longer than the Orchowski Trail. To choose between them, compare them directly: the Orchowski Trail focuses on connections between named places, while Cztery Jeziora also gives the route length and average journey time.

Route and directions

Cztery Jeziora is a combined hiking and cycling route. Its surface includes asphalt or paved paths as well as unpaved sections, which can become sandy or muddy in unfavourable weather. Factor the possible changes in surface into your plans. At kilometre 3.6, cyclists can turn towards Lake Kownackie and the open-air archaeological museum in Mrówki. Szydłowiec is reached at kilometre 12.0. After that, there is a left turn after about 1.5 kilometres, followed by a right turn another 150 metres later. Route markings and conditions may change; check the current route before setting out.

Two other routes pass through Szydłowiec: one connects Orchowo Górne, Osówiec and Orchowo Dolne. Another, designed as a loop, passes through the village and connects Wilczyn, Suszewo, Osówiec, Anastazewo and Tręby Stare.

Local history and cultural points of interest

The first mention of the village dates to 1511. A former Protestant church dates from 1864 and was taken over by the Roman Catholic Church after the Second World War. Cztery Jeziora also includes a roadside Marian chapel in Szydłówiec. The church’s current use and accessibility may change; check current visiting arrangements before your visit.

Remains of gravestones have been preserved in the former Protestant cemetery; two oak trees there are designated natural monuments. The cemetery’s condition and accessibility may change. Before visiting, also check the oaks’ current protection status. The church and cemetery offer distinct historical points of interest, while the oaks add a natural monument aspect.
