A permanent archaeological exhibition, a cultural centre in a restored locomotive depot and routes for Nordic walking give Pleszew three distinct points of interest. When planning your trip, you can choose between cultural history, a changing events programme and outdoor activity. The exhibition is a permanent focus of the museum; the programme at Zajezdnia Kultury may vary, and the routes offer a choice between Nordic walking and marked walking trails.
Museum and cultural programme in Pleszew
The Muzeum Regionalne in Pleszew houses the permanent archaeological exhibition “Z pradziejów Pleszewa i okolic,” dedicated to the prehistory of Pleszew and its surroundings. The museum’s collection also includes paintings, drawings and gouaches by Marian Bogusz. This brings two different subjects together: the archaeological prehistory of the town and its surroundings, and works by a named artist.
Another cultural venue is Zajezdnia Kultury, housed in a restored locomotive depot at ul. Kolejowa 3 in Pleszew. Its programme includes concerts, performances, exhibitions, film screenings and workshops for children, young people and adults. As the programme may vary, if you are interested in a particular event, check the current programme before planning your visit around it.
Routes for outdoor activity
The “Leśna Pętla” route for Nordic walking runs through Leśny “Planty” Park. It is distinct from the marked walking trails, which connect several places over longer distances. A marked walking trail, 18 km long, runs from Pleszew via Lutynia to Dobrzyca. Check locally whether the markings are up to date. No walking time is given for this route, so its length is the specific reference point for planning your own trip.
In the wider Pleschen destination
The wider Pleschen destination offers further cultural and architectural points of interest. Pleszew Town Hall was built in 1835 in the Neoclassical style. The eastern part of St Florian’s Church is a Gothic section dating from before 1444. The Regional Museum building also has its own history: it is housed in a former coaching inn, built around 1820–1830. These different periods offer a comparison between a Neoclassical town hall, a Gothic church section and a former inn.
Crafts and everyday history are further themes in the wider destination. The “Kuźnia Zawodów” Craft Museum presents tools, equipment, photographs and documents about crafts in the Pleszew region. The Bakery Museum explains how bread is made and displays old bakery equipment, including three ovens for bread and confectionery. The monastery museum of the Sisters of the Służebniczki displays embroidery, tools and documents from the domestic science school run by the congregation since 1923. The collections thus each have a different focus: crafts, baking and the history of a school.
The Pleszew narrow-gauge railway is also part of the wider Pleschen destination. Its station building was built in 1903. The railway offers regular year-round services as well as tourist rides in open carriages during the summer. If you plan to take a ride, check the timetable before your trip. The wider destination also offers a 14 km marked walking route: Pleszew–Lenartowice–Tursko. Compared with the 18 km route via Lutynia to Dobrzyca, it is 4 km shorter according to the stated distances; the named routes lead to different destinations.
