Odolanów combines architectural history with specific cultural themes: St Martin’s Church and the wooden St Barbara’s Church date from the late 18th century, while the town hall dates from the late 19th century. The Regional Museum offers a different focus, with a permanent exhibition on the Greater Poland Uprising and an extensive ethnographic section. Those looking for a holiday apartment for a stay focused on culture and exploring the town will find plenty of options here.
Churches and their history
St Martin’s Church was built between 1790 and 1794. Fragments of carvings from destroyed crosses have been preserved inside. The wooden St Barbara’s Church in Odolanów-Górka dates from 1784 and is located in the cemetery on ul. Spokojna. The churches were built relatively close together in time, but their surviving features offer different points of interest: St Barbara’s is a wooden church, while St Martin’s construction date and carved fragments provide specific insights into local history.
The former Protestant church is also part of Odolanów’s history: it is listed in the register of monuments. A revitalisation project envisaged converting it from religious to cultural use.
Town Hall and Regional Museum
The town hall was built in 1898–1899 in the Neo-Gothic style. This provides a timeline stretching from 1784 and 1790–1794 to the end of the 19th century; the Neo-Gothic style also gives the town hall its distinctive architectural character. Those interested in architectural history can therefore take in a building from a later period alongside the churches.
The Regional Museum brings together two more cultural and historical themes. Its permanent exhibition is devoted entirely to the events of the Greater Poland Uprising; check the exhibition details before your trip. The museum also has an extensive ethnographic section featuring significant works by the 19th-century folk sculptor Paweł Bryliński. The history of the uprising and ethnographic art thus offer two distinct perspectives.
Townscape and orientation
A water tower built in 1903 stands on the outskirts of Odolanów. It is 28 metres high from the ground to the roof cupola. Park 600-lecia stretches along Kaliska Street, with a monument to St Martin rising above the park.
Cycling route, walk and high ropes park
Those wishing to add some activity to their stay will find a section of cycling route and a high ropes park. The orange-marked “Dolina Baryczy” cycling route includes the Odolanów–Grabownica section. There is also a high ropes park in Odolanów; check current opening hours before your visit. A themed walk through Odolanów explores the town’s mysteries and tells visitors who its most famous resident was and what made him well known. If you plan to take this walk, check in advance whether an app or audio guide is available.
Dolina Baryczy Landscape Park covers 5,400 hectares within the municipality of Odolanów. This figure refers to the municipal area, not just the town itself.
