Łęczyce is located in the municipality of Opalenica in Nowy Tomyśl County, about one kilometre from Opalenica. The village is associated with a former German settlement. Its history includes both historical traces and dated examples of community involvement. In addition, the county’s network of tourist cycling routes offers a regional perspective on outdoor activities. When planning your trip, it helps to keep these topics separate.

Settlement History and Community

The former square-shaped cemetery contained more than 30 graves of German settlers and a mortuary. After the war, the site was damaged; the mortuary was demolished following a fire. Opposite the former cemetery, a building first served as a school for German children and later for Polish children as well. The cemetery and school building therefore offer different perspectives: the cemetery site focuses on the graves and the damage it later suffered, while the school reflects its use first for German and later also for Polish children.

Community life is also linked to specific names and dates. During the Partitions, residents of Łęczyce actively participated in social life. In 1913, Józef Czepczyński and Roman Śmierzchalski belonged to an agricultural society. A wayside cross at a village junction was erected in 1950 on the initiative and with financial support of local residents. A rural women’s association was founded on 9 February 1965; it is best to ask locally whether it is still active today. Chronologically, this gives three reference points: membership in the agricultural society in 1913, the wayside cross in 1950, and the founding of the women’s association in 1965. This timeline places different forms of community involvement in context.

Łęczyce is also associated with the manufacture of paving stones and other concrete products. This economic connection adds another subject to the settlement and social history. Production is therefore part of the village’s profile alongside its historical sites.

Cycling Routes in the County

Around 400 kilometres of tourist cycling routes are designated in Nowy Tomyśl County. One tourist cycling route runs for 7.5 kilometres through mixed forest and includes a rest area. The overall figure indicates the scale of the network at county level, while the forest section and rest area are specific features of an individual route. The rest area can serve as a place to take a break; the mixed forest defines the landscape along this section.

To help with your travel plans, it is useful to distinguish between the two scales: the historical topics relate to Łęczyce itself, while the cycling network is designated at county level. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider whether local history or a particular cycling tour will be the focus of your stay. Check the route, surface and signage for your chosen tour; trail conditions and markings may change.
