In Kępno County, discoveries range from exhibitions and historic churches to an arboretum, hiking trails and protected natural areas. Kępno, Bralin and other places offer different starting points for a trip that brings cultural history and landscape together. Each destination has its own focus, so you can choose according to your interests.

Exhibitions and architectural history

The Muzeum Ziemi Kępińskiej presents the permanent exhibition “Z historii Kępna”. On the first floor, it is joined by “Dziedzictwo Żydowskie w Kępnie” and “Kolory Potworowskiego”. The titles highlight different subjects: the history of Kępno, the city’s Jewish heritage and Potworowski’s art. Admission to the museum is free.

The churches also reflect different periods of construction. St. Martin’s Church in Kępno dates from 1685 and is one of the oldest masonry churches in Kępno County. The former Evangelical Church of St. John the Evangelist in Bralin was built in 1866–1867 on the site of a former Evangelical school. Near Bralin also stands the wooden church “Na Pólku”, built in 1711. It is closely associated with the pilgrimage of Saint Hedwig of Silesia to Kraków in 1229. On 25 February 1993, it received a Europa Nostra Medal for the outstanding restoration of its 18th-century wooden architecture.

The Enzle bralińskie are a different kind of historical trace: the remains of a fortified manor house. The site can be identified by its conical earthwork and traces of a moat. It is therefore quite distinct from the churches and their documented histories of construction and restoration.

Arboretum and protected nature

Geomorphologically, Kępno County lies within the Wysoczyzna Wieruszowska, a landscape with little variation in relief. One particular nature destination is the Arboretum Laski, a dendrological garden dating back to 1981. More than 220 species, varieties and forms of ornamental and forest trees and shrubs grow across nearly seven hectares.

The Baranów Natura 2000 site is a 12.27-hectare special area of conservation for habitats, with wet meadows near the southern boundary of the town of Kępno. The Dęby Bralińskie represent a different scale of natural heritage: this natural monument consists of twelve oaks estimated to be between 600 and 800 years old. A clearly defined protected area and a small group of very old trees thus offer two distinct nature destinations.

In the Studnica Nature Reserve in the municipality of Rychtal, spruce trees reach up to 40 metres in height and more than 100 centimetres in diameter. These dimensions draw attention to individual trees, while the arboretum and wet meadows each show different aspects of trees and landscape.

Hiking trails and activities

The yellow-marked WK–193y hiking trail runs for 40.7 kilometres within Kępno County. A separate hiking trail passes by the Studnica Nature Reserve and Arboretum Laski. When planning a trip, both the specific route length and these two named nature destinations are relevant.

The recreation centre in Mikorzyn has a bathing area and a playground; fishing is also available there. Check current operating details before your visit. This helps keep your plans in line with the facilities actually available on site.

Kępno is an important reference point for getting around: it is the only town in Kępno County. The major Wrocław–Warszawa and Katowice–Poznań transport routes pass through Kępno. These routes help you navigate the area, while each cultural and natural destination retains its own particular focus.
