You can learn about Magdalenki through its origins and several traces of its history. A cycling route around 25 kilometres long also passes through the village. When looking for a holiday apartment in Magdalenki, these topics can help you decide what you would like to focus on during your stay: the village’s history offers a cultural perspective, while the route provides a specific option for a cycling tour.

Origins and the history of the name

The settlement was established as a result of the emancipation of the peasants in the first half of the 19th century. This connection to reform places the founding of the village in a broader historical context. When it was founded, Kalikst Bojanowski moved the farmland from Krzekotowice closer to Czeluścin. The two place names help explain the specific process: Krzekotowice was where the farmland was originally located, and Czeluścin was the place it was moved closer to. The settlement was named after Magdalena Bojanowska, the mother of the reform’s initiator. The reform and the naming are thus linked to different people: Kalikst Bojanowski was involved in the relocation, while Magdalena Bojanowska gave the village its name.

Biographical traces and remembrance

Antoni Busz was born in Magdalenki and served in the Polish army from 1919 to 1921. A memorial plaque to him is located in the village, on a cross. The municipal memorial route also includes house no. 29, which served as a meeting place for a group of Poles in 1942. The memorial site and the house represent different forms of local remembrance: one commemorates a person, the other a specific meeting place. Busz’s period of service predates the 1942 meeting; the dates place the biographical and local memorial traces in chronological order.

The “Franciszek” windmill

The “Franciszek” windmill is also part of the village’s history. It was relocated from Magdalenki; after the relocation, its last major renovation took place between 1977 and 1979. The windmill is listed as a cultural heritage monument. The relocation and the subsequent renovation are two separate stages in its history.

Cycling route and orientation

The Szlak Bohaterów II Wojny Światowej is dedicated to the heroes of the Second World War. The cycling route, around 25 kilometres long, passes through Magdalenki. Along the route, the village lies between Czeluścinek and Krzekotowice. These details provide different points of reference for planning: the dedication identifies the historical theme, the sequence locates Magdalenki along the route, and the approximate length gives an indication of the total distance. As conditions on individual paths may change, check them before setting out. The municipal memorial route, which includes house no. 29, is distinct from the cycling route; the two routes serve different purposes here.
