The church, archaeological traces and cycling give Żydowo a range of different ways to shape a stay. The Church of St. Stanislaus offers a glimpse into the town’s architectural history; the manor house and archaeological finds broaden the view of earlier times. There is also a regularly held cycling tour, a section of the cycle route network and a leisure sports centre. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide whether to plan your travel dates around a possible event date or your interest in the town’s cultural and historical heritage.

St. Stanislaus: Architectural History and Cultural Heritage

The listed Church of St. Stanislaus, Bishop and Martyr, is considered Late Classical in style. The present-day brick building was erected in 1845, after the earlier wooden church burned down in 1811. These two dates make it possible to trace the transition from the older timber structure to the present church building. The church has historic bells dating from 1717 and 1773. The parish describes a 17th-century image of the Madonna of the Gurowski family as its most valuable cultural object. The architecture, bells and image represent different aspects of the church’s heritage and offer tangible points of interest for anyone curious about the town’s history.

Archaeological Traces and the Manor House

Remains of an early medieval fortified settlement lie on the left bank of the Mała Wrześnica. Separately, traces of Pomeranian culture dating to around 550 BC have been found in Żydowo. The landscape park contains a manor house dating from around the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. The park belonging to the manor complex is protected as a historic monument under registration number 2166/A; it was listed on 13 April 1989. Archaeological finds and datable architectural history thus point to different historical layers of the town.

Cycling and Leisure Sports

The “Rajd rowerowy 3 Maja” cycling tour is held regularly in Żydowo. If you would like to include the tour in your stay, check your travel dates against the date announced for that year. The cycle route network built as part of a completed project includes a section along Dworcowa Street in Żydowo. Check the current condition of the section before planning a ride. The leisure sports centre on Adama Mickiewicza Street has a skatepark, a beach volleyball court and a tennis court. If you plan to use any of these facilities, check in advance what access is currently available. The event date, the condition of the cycle route section and access to the centre are separate considerations that may be relevant depending on your travel plans.

Getting Around and Planning Your Trip

A completed infrastructure project at Plac Obrońców Żydowa included a car park with Park and Ride and Bike and Ride facilities, bicycle and bus-stop shelters, and connections to public transport towards Września and Gniezno. If you plan to use these facilities for your arrival or onward journey, check their current availability and connections in advance. This lets you coordinate your travel dates with an event while also deciding whether church and local history or cycling will be the main focus of your stay.
