A large acacia tree beside centrally located Hamorawon Park serves as a landmark in Borongan City. The city’s territory also extends to the islands in Borongan Bay. From city attractions and nature parks to beaches and surf spots, there are different highlights to consider when planning your trip.

City Attractions and Nature

Hamorawon Park is located in the center of the city. The large acacia tree beside the park serves as a landmark. The large shell at the park formerly served as a cultural stage for public performances. The fenced area in front of it was also once a place for public gatherings. These uses are part of the site’s history.

Another natural highlight is Canhugas Nature Park in Borongan City. It features lush forests, caves, waterfalls and natural swimming pools. Travelers who want to include nature experiences in their plans will find a very different kind of destination here than at centrally located Hamorawon Park.

Beaches and Surf Spots

Boulevard (Borongan Bay) is a surf spot near the town center. It has a sandy bottom and a right-breaking river-mouth beach break. The spot is suitable for beginners and advanced surfers; wave conditions can vary by season.

Guintagican Beach, also called Punta Maria, is two kilometers long and has white sand. Its beach breaks break both left and right, and surf conditions are inconsistent. The sea there tends to be calmer in summer; the beach is also suitable for beginners. Guintagican is several kilometers from the town center and can only be reached via an access road. The final stretch to the beach must be covered on foot because the footpath is narrow. Check local conditions before your trip.

Sulangan Beach is also described as a surfing destination: its consistent beach-break wave breaks both left and right, and the beach is suitable for beginners and learning to surf. Lalawigan is a barangay in Borongan with rough waves and strong currents. Only advanced surfers surf there; waves and currents can vary. The different wave patterns and skill levels provide a concrete basis for choosing coastal destinations if surfing is a factor in your plans.

More Coastal and Island Destinations

Cabong is a beach with gray sand. Locals and visitors use it for swimming, outings and picnics, especially on special occasions, weekends and public holidays. Ando Island is among the beaches of Borongan City and offers white-sand beaches and coral formations; the island is suitable for diving and snorkeling. The city’s territory also includes the islands of Monbon and Divinubo in Borongan Bay.

Market and Finding Accommodation

Borongan Market is in the Puray district of Barangay H (Tarusan), slightly upriver on the north bank of the Lo-om River. Goods on offer include staples such as rice and corn, dried and fresh fish, meat, vegetables, fruit, spices, tubers and local cakes. A look at the goods on offer adds another aspect of the city to visits to parks, beaches and surf spots.

Borongan City caters to a variety of travel interests, and not every beach and surf spot offers the same conditions.
