The walk from Anapia Island’s dock to Anapia Plaza provides a practical reference point for finding your way around town: the route is 550 meters long and takes about 15 minutes. The walking time is an estimate and may vary depending on conditions. For planning purposes, getting around town and traveling across the lake are two separate considerations.

Getting there by lake

Anapia can be reached by lake from the Punta Hermosa dock in the district of Unicachi; the town is 16 kilometers from the dock. Check boat schedules and availability locally before deciding on your travel plans. The island district’s tourism offerings also include boat rentals through the Asociación de Transportistas en Lancha y/o Botes del distrito insular de Anapia. Confirm in advance whether rentals are available on your dates and what local arrangements apply. This lets you include the boat connection in your plans without assuming there is a fixed schedule.

Wiñaymarka and the islands

The Islas Anapia y Yuspique tourism resource area lies in the southern basin of Lake Titicaca, also known as Wiñaymarka. This resource area offers panoramic views of Lake Wiñaymarka. The Wiñaymarca Archipelago comprises ten islands, including Isla Anapia and Isla Yuspique. The panoramic view is part of the resource area, while the vicuña breeding station is on the nearby island of Yuspique. It is protected by the community and is home to more than 60 animals. This number may change.

Community and activities

Anapia’s residents maintain their own local customs, and fishing is one of their main activities. The island has facilities for community-based rural tourism. The offerings include a visit to Yuspique. If you would like to include this island visit in your plans, confirm the current arrangements before traveling. This allows you to consider a visit to the neighboring island as part of the community-based offering without assuming specific dates or arrangements.

Sport fishing is offered in the Anapia–Yuspique tourism resource area. Check in advance what equipment, permits or local arrangements may be relevant to your visit. Local fishing is also part of everyday life on Anapia: it is one of the residents’ main activities. Visitors can therefore experience both a tourism offering and a central aspect of local life.

Cuisine and crafts

Traditional dishes include chairo, pesq'e, q'ispiño, quinoa mazamorra, tarwi salad, wallaq'e, watia and tayacha. The dishes are sampled and prepared. What hosts can offer depends on them and on the season. If you would like to explore the island’s cuisine, allow time for a tasting or a cooking activity rather than expecting a particular dish on a specific date.

Handwoven goods are offered as souvenirs in the archipelago. Ask locally about what is available during your visit; the offerings are not tied to a particular shop. This lets you include local handicrafts as part of your visit without planning around a fixed point of sale.

Guesthouses and when to visit

There are guesthouses in Anapia. If you are looking for accommodation for specific travel dates, check current availability directly. The island’s patronal festival honors the Señor de Exaltación and takes place on September 14; the program may vary. If you would like to plan your visit around the festival, ask in advance about the events scheduled for your dates.
