Kunje is one of the settlements sharing the coast of Stari Ulcinj Nature Park. This makes both the bathing areas and the protected coastal landscape relevant when planning a trip. Beach measurements, local amenities and access roads provide practical points of reference when choosing where to stay.

Nature Park and coastal area

Stari Ulcinj Nature Park is a Category IV protected area. The national protection decision dates from 11 February 2022. The park covers 929.16 hectares, and its boundary is 17.62 kilometres long. These measurements refer to the nature park as a whole. Kunje is one of the settlements along its coast.

The area and boundary figures convey the scale of the protected coastal area. They offer a different point of reference from the measurements of individual bathing areas: visitors considering Kunje as a place to stay can use them to distinguish between the wider landscape and specific beach areas.

Bathing areas and planned camping

At Uvala Maslina in Kunje, public family bathing areas are designated, with beach sections measuring 30, 75 and 65 metres. Uvala Maslina (Utjeha) is listed as having a beach length of 200 metres; an area of 5,200 square metres is also given for Uvala Maslina. Length and area describe different measurements of the coastal area and therefore offer different points of reference for planning.

A camping area for up to 30 camping units is planned at Uvala Maslina. A temporary parking area is also designated. The camping area should therefore be understood as a plan, not as a guarantee of a currently available site.

Accommodation and local amenities

Hotel R in Kunje offers an outdoor pool with sun loungers and parasols, access to a private beach section, and a restaurant serving regional dishes.

El mar in Kunje has a restaurant, a pizzeria, a pastry shop and a summer garden with a swimming pool. The settlement also has a multi-purpose court for basketball, volleyball, tennis and indoor football. Alongside the bathing areas, visitors can therefore choose from dining and sports options. As facilities may change, check which amenities are available during your stay when making specific plans.

Historical highlights in the wider Ulcinj destination

In the wider Ulcinj destination, the Old Town offers a distinct historical focus. It was protected as a cultural property of national importance in 1961. Its upper section is dominated by the Citadel and has a military character; the lower settlement is civilian in character. Fortification walls surround the Old Town. St. Mary’s Church was built in 1510 and converted into a mosque in 1571.

The Valdanos olive grove is also located in the wider Ulcinj destination. It contains around 18,000 olive trees with an average age of 800 years and is under special state protection. The Old Town and olive grove complement Kunje’s coastal attractions with regional architectural, historical and landscape features, without being features of Kunje itself.

Planning your journey and stay

The protected area and its coast are accessed via local unpaved roads. As road conditions may change, check their condition before your visit and take the surface into account when planning your journey.
