Hiking and Landscape in the Brezna Area
The Brezna Valley is a quiet, birch-rich rural area divided into a lower and an upper section. Marked routes lead toward the surrounding mountains and viewpoints over Komarnica Canyon. There are also leisurely walks and herb walks. When planning your day, you can take different interests into account: a viewpoint gives a tour a specific destination, while walks and herb walks focus on being out in the landscape. Check the signage and trail conditions locally before choosing a route.
A Varied Range of Experiences in the Brezna Area
Etno Selo Montenegro is located in the Brezna area between Nikšić and Plužine. The complex offers a restaurant serving national cuisine, an outdoor pool, a sauna and museums, as well as hiking, cycling and other adventure activities. This brings food, culture and physical activity together as different ways to enjoy the area. Individual facilities and activities may change over time; bear this in mind when planning and check the details relevant to your visit.
Local products can also add to your stay: some farms in Brezna sell cheese, pršut and mushrooms. The selection depends on the season and the individual household. If you are looking for these products, do not assume that the same range is available everywhere or throughout the year.
Plužine as the Wider Destination
Within the wider destination of Plužine, the Piva Nature Park is a particular highlight. The park covers 39 percent of the Municipality of Plužine. The Plužine–Stabna–Veliki Vito route is designated as a marked mountain trail. If you are considering this route, check trail conditions before setting out, as they can change. This helps distinguish the hiking options in the Brezna area from the designated trails in the destination of Plužine.
Lake Piva offers particularly good conditions for watersports on calm water. Kayaking is an option for travellers who prefer a peaceful paddle; boat trips are also offered as a visitor activity. The zipline at Lake Piva is 1,400 metres long. For wildlife viewing, Piva Nature Park has two platforms for observing wild animals and one birdwatching platform. The condition and access to the platforms may change, so it is advisable to check before visiting.
Cultural History in Plužine
The cultural sites in the wider destination of Plužine have their own distinct character. Piva Monastery was relocated to Sinjac because of the flooding caused by the Piva River and the construction of a hydroelectric power plant; the original frescoes were transferred as well. The monastery treasury is one of the richest in Montenegro. Its collections include old manuscript books and early printed works from the Balkans, including the only surviving Psalter from the Obod printing house. The Kula Lazara Sočice in Goransko is designated as a cultural property.
