Shore, Beaches and Townscape

Baošići lies on the southeastern shore of the Bay of Kotor, between Đenovići and Bijela. The town stretches for approximately two kilometres. Dozens of natural pebble beaches line the shore. In Baošići, a coastal landscape meets a long maritime history. If you would like to combine beaches and local culture during a stay on the bay, you will find both beaches and specific historical points of interest here.

Access to all beaches is unrestricted. If coastal management changes, the access rules should be checked again locally. In normal sea conditions, the calm, shallow waters at the beaches are considered particularly child-friendly. The pebble beaches give the shoreline a different character from a sandy beach; the focus is on the bay’s natural coastal landscape.

Maritime History at the Captain’s House

A central place for exploring maritime history is the Dom starog kapetana Štumbergera Museum in Baošići. The house first opened to visitors in 1955. As of 2026, the museum is managed by the public museum institution of Herceg Novi. The estate includes a park and a small vineyard, offering a glimpse of the grounds themselves alongside the history of the house.

The house’s collection includes ethnological objects, antique weapons and books, as well as model sailing ships, amphorae, icons, paintings and old coins. The exhibits illustrate different aspects of the house and its collections, from everyday and cultural objects to maritime models. For choosing where to stay, this means Baošići combines a stay by the shore with a specific insight into its seafaring history—not just a focus on the beach.

The reported scale of seafaring is also remarkable: at its peak in the Bay of Kotor, Baošići is said to have had more than 30 long-distance ships and over 50 sea captains. The French writer Pierre Loti came ashore in Baošići in 1880. These accounts reflect different historical perspectives: the reported importance of seafaring and a single, dated visit.

Church and Remembrance in Baošići

The Church of St Nicholas was built more than 400 years ago and restored in 1802. The 2023 municipal cultural heritage register lists it as an immovable cultural asset of local significance. Its history therefore stretches back a long way, with the 1802 restoration providing another specific point of reference in the church’s development.

Another historical site is the memorial in Dubci, Baošići. It commemorates six fighters in the National Liberation War. The six patriots were executed there by the Italian occupying authorities on 5 August 1942. The church and the memorial thus represent different themes and periods in the town’s history.

Herceg Novi: Festival and Mountain Trails

The Mimosa Festival finale takes place on the shore at Baošići; the tradition dates back more than 40 years. The Mimosa Festival was founded in 1969 in the wider Herceg Novi destination. In February and March, it features masquerade balls, carnival events, concerts and numerous programmes for children, arts and sports. The specific programme may vary. Before travelling, check the dates and events for the relevant edition.

Another perspective is offered by Orjen Nature Park in the wider Herceg Novi destination. It lies in the hinterland of Herceg Novi, on Mount Orjen. Its dense network of marked trails ranges from easy walking paths to routes for experienced mountaineers. This makes it possible to distinguish Baošići’s coastal and cultural attractions from mountain hikes in the regional nature park when planning your trip.
