Zminica draws the eye to a tranquil natural landscape and offers a distinctive focus for nature observation. Lake Zminičko, the surrounding forests and meadows, and the waterbirds along its shores shape the scenery. If you are looking for accommodation, you can make these natural features a priority when choosing your destination.
Lake Zminičko and its landscape
Lake Zminičko lies near Zminica at the foot of Mount Sinjajevina. Dense coniferous forests and broad meadows frame the lake; the surrounding area has a rural, natural and peaceful character. The shallow mountain lake is fed mainly by spring snowmelt, while its water level varies seasonally.
Wild ducks and other waterbirds can be found along the shores. This makes the lake interesting for nature observation and ornithology. The water and shoreline together provide a point of interest for travelers who want to appreciate both the landscape and birdlife.

More nature and culture highlights in the wider Žabljak destination
In the wider Žabljak destination, Black Lake offers another point of interest in nature. Durmitor National Park contains 18 glacial lakes; Black Lake is the largest and best-known of them, and also Montenegro’s second-largest mountain lake. It lies 3 kilometers southwest of Žabljak at an elevation of 1,418 meters and is protected by UNESCO. A rare bifurcation shapes its watercourse: the water flows underground into the Tara and Piva rivers.
Vražje Lake is also located there. It is part of Durmitor National Park and lies within the municipality of Žabljak. As a glacial lake, it is characterized by crystal-clear water. Unlike the shallow Lake Zminičko near Zminica, Black Lake and Vražje Lake are glacial lakes. Lake Zminje is located in the Pitomine settlement within the municipality of Žabljak and is connected to Veliko Crno jezero, 100 meters below, by the 2.6-kilometer-long Mlinsko stream.
A constructed footpath leads from Black Lake to Lake Zminje; several marked hiking and walking trails also start at Black Lake. At Lake Jablan, the access road reaches the Momčilov grad restaurant; from there, a gently rising footpath continues through a pine forest. The route is suitable for people seeking relaxation and families with children. The Durmitor Ring panoramic road is also signposted in both directions.
The wider Žabljak destination also offers specific points of interest for those interested in culture. UNESCO-protected medieval tombstones known as Stećci are located near Lake Riblje in the village of Novakovići. The Wild Beauty Art Festival is a multidisciplinary arts event held every summer in Žabljak. If you would like to include the festival in your plans, check the event dates in advance.
