Bukovik is defined by one distinctive theme: the Rajković family’s winemaking. At Buk Winery, the focus is on vineyards, the wine cellar and a family-run experience. This gives your travel plans a clear local focus: winemaking, family history and landscape.
Vineyards, Wine Cellar and Views
Buk Winery offers visits to its vineyards and wine cellar. The family experience includes stories about the Rajković family tradition, a traditional snack, cheese, products from the lake region and a tasting of four wines produced at the winery. Confirm the visit offering directly with the winery before you arrive.
The estate includes terraced vineyards and views towards Lake Skadar and the contours of the Prokletije Mountains. How much is visible depends on the weather and vegetation. Unlike a visit to the wine cellar, the views outside are therefore dependent on visibility conditions.
Three Generations and Crmnica’s Wine Tradition
The Rajković family presents winemaking in Bukovik as a family tradition spanning three generations and connects it with Crmnica’s longer wine culture. Two timeframes go hand in hand: the winery’s family tradition and Crmnica’s longer-standing winemaking heritage. This gives the tasting a cultural context, rather than focusing only on the four wines on offer.
Bar: Lake, Trails and Cultural Heritage
In the wider destination of Bar, the focus shifts from a single winery to a broader range of landscapes and cultural attractions. The Bar area lies between the Adriatic coast and Lake Skadar. Bar promotes boat trips on Lake Skadar, as well as the 115-kilometre panoramic route “Between Two Enchanting Shores,” which has seven viewpoints. Visits to Old Bar and other outdoor activities are also part of the regional offering. Check the availability of the route and activities locally before your trip.
Crmnica is considered an agricultural and winemaking region, with villages, cultural heritage and routes to explore on foot, by bicycle or by car. If you plan to take these routes, check road conditions and access details before setting out.
In the wider destination of Bar, licensed operators organise boat trips in Lake Skadar National Park; boats depart from Virpazar, among other places. Visitors can explore nine marked hiking trails independently using a map. Maps are available at the visitor centres in Virpazar and Vranjina. There are also five cycling routes and two mountain-bike trails; some of the cycling routes start in Virpazar. Birdwatching can be arranged from a boat or from the Stanaj observation tower, with registration at least one day in advance.
The cultural sites also offer distinct points of interest. King Nikola had his palace built directly on the seafront in 1885. The Local History Museum in the palace houses the most important archaeological finds from the area. The Old Olive Tree in Mirovica is one of the natural monuments in the Municipality of Bar. Besac stands on a hill above Virpazar and offers views of Lake Skadar; StarÄŤevo Monastery is located on an island in the lake. The Old Well of Ostros is twelve metres deep and was built in 1001, in the 11th century.
