Villa GarcĂa brings together the history of Hacienda del Agostadero, a public square with a long history and present-day cultural activities. The Casa del Administrador stands beside the church of the cabecera municipal, the main town of the municipality, in the centre of the former hacienda grounds. The former Casa Grande houses the municipal administration; JardĂn Morelos is another landmark in the main town. This gives you several options for planning your trip: hacienda architecture, local history or workshops at the cultural centre.
Hacienda del Agostadero: Buildings and History
Hacienda del Agostadero dates back to 1616 and comprises the Casa Grande, Casa de los Administradores and Casa de Esquilmos. The former Casa Grande on Calle Ignacio Zaragoza houses the municipal administration of Villa GarcĂa. The Casa del Administrador is a separate landmark: it stands beside the church of the cabecera municipal and in the centre of the former hacienda grounds. Its main attractions include the wall decorations, woodwork and ceilings. The former water supply is also part of this architectural history: an aqueduct supplied water to the Casa del Administrador. The two buildings therefore offer different perspectives on the hacienda’s heritage: the Casa Grande’s current administrative function and the design and water supply of the Casa del Administrador.
JardĂn Morelos and Local History
JardĂn Morelos is in the cabecera municipal of Villa GarcĂa on Calle Ignacio Zaragoza. Its kiosk dates from the early 20th century. In the mid-20th century, a monument to Morelos, in honour of the independence hero, was erected there. The garden’s public function dates back much further, however: it has served as a public square since the settlement’s beginnings, when the population was still part of Hacienda del Agostadero. The history of JardĂn Morelos thus reflects different periods: its early role as a public square and the two landmarks added in the 20th century.

The Zacatecas state tourism office also includes the Virgen del Agostadero in its spiritual experience route, which extends beyond the municipality.
