Cañadas del Pixquiac is located in the town of Rancho Viejo in the municipality of Tlalnelhuayocan. The interpretive walk passes through the cloud forest and focuses on nature conservation. For trip planning, you can also choose from a nearly 20-kilometer loop, individual trails with different features, and trout and finca cuisine. The walk highlights nature conservation; on the trails, you can plan your hike according to the gradient, destination, and mode of travel.
Cloud Forest Trails and a Variety of Trails
The hiking trails of Cañadas del Pixquiac form a nearly 20-kilometer loop through well-preserved forests, cornfields, reforestation areas, rivers, waterfalls, caves, and landscapes with panoramic views. Guided tours start in Rancho Viejo.
The individual trails each have a different focus. Sendero de las Pesmas can be explored on foot or on horseback. Sendero del Chilacayote has a gentle gradient and leads to a waterfall. Sendero de las Bromelias has a steep gradient and leads to the bottom of the RĂo Xocoyolapan gorge. This means you can choose based on specific differences: mode of travel, gradient, and destination landscape.
The gradients are particularly easy to compare on the trails to the waterfall and the gorge: Chilacayote has a gentle gradient, while the trail to the Bromelias climbs steeply. The destinations also differ clearly. For Pesmas, by contrast, the defining feature is the choice between walking and riding a horse. Confirm current tour arrangements in advance before planning your stay around them.
Trout Experience and Cuisine
The “Experiencia de la Trucha: Gota de RocĂo” is developed in the towns of Rancho Viejo and Los Capulines in the municipalities of Tlalnelhuayocan, Acajete, and Coatepec. It combines community-based, sustainable trout production with trout tasting. If you want a culinary experience that includes not only a tasting but also the production process, you’ll find both aspects in one experience. Confirm current participation and booking arrangements in advance.
Finca La Niebla in Rancho Viejo has a small farm where children can feed horses, ducks, and chickens. Feeding the animals is offered by the finca; arrange participation directly with the establishment. Visitors who are not staying there can also enjoy regional dishes and international fusion cuisine made with ingredients from the finca itself. The finca’s cuisine thus offers a different culinary focus from the tasting specifically centered on trout. Confirm current visitor arrangements and opening hours directly with the finca before your visit.
