The Iglesia de Mocorito preserves 14 Stations of the Cross dating from the 16th century, more than 400 years old. Other highlights include a museum about the history of Los Tigres del Norte, a mural with four historical sections, and the craft tradition of El Valle. This offers several ways to plan a trip: cultural history, landscapes, and events.

Mocorito Municipality: Three Climate Regions

The municipality of Mocorito is in the northwest of the state of Sinaloa. Its three climate regions vary by location: tropical savanna lies to the west, mountains to the east, and a transitional zone in the central area. The vegetation also reflects these different landscapes. The highlands are home to conifers, oaks, and pines. Amapas, ébanos, cedars, and sabinos grow on the mountain slopes, while the coastal zone has herbs, shrubs, mangroves, guamúchiles, mesquites, and wild figs. Visitors who choose Mocorito as a destination will find more than just one type of landscape.

Church Art, Architecture, and Music History

The 14 Stations of the Cross in the Iglesia de Mocorito date from the 16th century and are more than 400 years old. The Casa de la Cultura offers another perspective on local history: the building features traditional 19th-century architecture and houses the mural “Mocorito a través de los siglos” by Alonso Enríquez. It is divided into four sections: “Mocorito Antiguo,” “La Ilustración,” “El Mundo Moderno,” and “Mocorito rumbo al 2000.” The section titles alone span a period from old Mocorito to the lead-up to the year 2000.

The Museo de Los Tigres del Norte opened on May 8, 2024, in the Pueblo Mágico of Mocorito. Spread across two levels, it is dedicated to the group’s history, with a presentation featuring various objects and music archives. An exhibition refresh was underway in August 2026. Alongside religious art and local history, the museum offers a distinct perspective on music history.

The Casa de las Diligencias adds the history of transportation to these historical themes. Built in the late 19th century, the house served as an arrival point and stagecoach station on the Camino Real for the transport of goods and passengers to the north and south of Mexico. In El Valle, people make clay vessels, baskets, and palm-leaf fans, as well as pottery and wooden items. The Los Grandes de la Música cultural route connects Mocorito and Guamúchil and explores Sinaloa’s musical heritage.

River, Nature Reserve, and Events

La Alameda is a 27-hectare nature reserve on the left bank of the Río Mocorito. Its listed facilities include walking paths, palapas, children’s playgrounds, sports courts, ramps for skating, a tree nursery, a climbing wall, and a zip line across the river. Check that each facility is operating before your visit. The Río Mocorito is a traditional outing spot where families, young people, and visitors enjoy the water and the shade of centuries-old poplar trees. The hot springs of La Huerta are considered an attraction for visitors and local residents because of their healing properties.

Events can also be the reason for a trip. The Fiesta de la PurĂsima ConcepciĂłn is celebrated on December 8 and brings together residents of Mocorito, people from surrounding towns, and visitors from the region. At Viernes de Plaza, games, crafts, traditional sweets, ice cream, and traditional pastries from Mocorito are available at Plazuela Miguel Hidalgo on Fridays. The event is intended for residents of the municipal seat, nearby towns, and rancherĂas. Check the dates and event program before traveling.
