Estero Franco is a place on the Hondo River with a history linked to logging and local geology. Tourist tours are also described; older information or details provided by tour operators are not a guarantee for your travel dates.

The River and the Origin of the Name

Estero Franco was one of the logging camps on the Hondo River that supplied Payo Obispo economically. The Estero Franco Formation is exposed at Estero Franco. The formation was named Estero Franco because its rocks are exposed across much of a chiclero concession whose headquarters were in the settlement of Estero Franco, which shared its name. Estero Franco Creek flows into the Hondo River. The formation provides geological context; it is not automatically an accessible attraction.

Activities to Consider with Caution

Mayan World Adventures is a tent lodge with a restaurant in Estero Franco. Mayan World Adventures offers birdwatching at sunrise, when parrots, migratory birds, and toucans can be observed. Kayak tours can be arranged on Estero Franco Creek for groups of six to eight people. The tent lodge mentioned and the kayak tours are separate operator-provided or editorial listings; current availability and operation must be confirmed.
