Mineral del Monte brings together traces of mining with museums, walking tours, viewpoints, and a distinctive food culture. Real del Monte, also known as Mineral del Monte, has held the Pueblo Mágico designation since October 27, 2004. When planning your visit, you can focus on different aspects of the town: historic sites, stories, landscape, or paste.

Traces of Mining and Its History

The Mina de Acosta preserves its original layout from 1727, an aqueduct, and its perimeter walls. This highlights both the historical date and the surviving architectural features. The Monumento al Minero complements this theme in sculptural form: the bronze statue depicts an anonymous miner with his tools. The site and monument offer two different ways to explore mining history—through the structure of a place and through the portrayal of a worker.

The Museo de Medicina Laboral was founded in 1907 and preserves medical furniture and equipment that have been used since it opened. Here, the focus is on the medical side of working life. The English Cemetery also broadens the historical perspective: it was established around the middle of the 19th century and contains 755 masonry and marble graves, all facing east. People of English, Scottish, Irish, German, Dutch, and Chinese origin are buried there. The number of graves, their materials and orientation, and the origins of those buried there offer different aspects of the cemetery to discover.

Walking Tours, Culture, and Views

Daytime tours take you to well-known sites and viewpoints; nighttime tours feature legends and folk stories. The formats have different focuses: during the day, sites and views take center stage, while at night, the focus is on stories. When choosing a tour, you can consider whether you are most interested in seeing sights or learning local stories.

The Mirador Turístico Plaza la Purísima offers panoramic views of Real del Monte. There are also opportunities to take photos wearing a miner’s helmet and to buy handicrafts and souvenirs. The monumental Real del Monte letters stand in the upper part of the main garden and provide a backdrop for panoramic photos of the historic center and its surroundings. Both places offer a photographic view of the town, but with different subjects.

The Museo Casa Grande offers collections, exhibitions, editorial presentations, theater performances, musical performances, guided tours, and educational programs. Its offerings range from exhibitions and educational activities to theater and music. A municipal brochure from 2025 describes Casa Grande as a venue for exhibitions, conferences, and congresses organized by UAEH.

Forest Landscape and Paste

Bosque del Hiloche is a foggy, humid, cool forest with rural landscapes and views of wooded areas and mining sites. Its landscape differs from the museums and monuments: here, the forest and mining sites shape the view. The forest area thus complements the cultural and historical themes with a landscape perspective.

The food culture is also connected to mining history. Visitors can take part in making paste, a traditional specialty that is particularly highlighted in the Pueblo Mágico. English miners ate paste as food in the mine. At the entrance to Real del Monte, the Museo del Paste also features an area with objects used by English miners. In this way, a contemporary culinary experience and objects from mining history come together, while remaining distinct topics.
