On the shore of Lake Samanis in Stanislavavas grows the Stanislavavo Oak. Together with the nature attractions of Sirvėta Regional Park and the cultural offerings in the wider Švenčionys area, it makes for a varied picture to consider when planning your trip: you can get to know the area through a notable natural landmark and focus on other interests as well.
The Oak by Lake Samanis
The Stanislavavo Oak grows in Stanislavavas, beside the manor estate and on the shore of Lake Samanis. It is 23 metres tall and has a diameter of 1.9 metres. A continuous surface lightning scar runs along its trunk. In 1968, the oak was declared a natural monument. Its height, diameter and distinctive trunk scar make the tree a clearly defined nature destination.
The oak can be reached via the paved Švenčionys–Mielagėnai road. In the village of Stanislavavas, follow the roadside signpost, then walk 200 metres across a meadow to the tree. For navigation, it is important to note the change: the road takes you to the village, while the final stretch is covered on foot.
Landscape and Protected Areas
The eastern part of Švenčionių seniūnija has a hilly landscape. Small lakes, wetlands and mixed forests shape the scenery. This gives the trip a nature-oriented setting, without reducing its different landscape features to a single excursion destination.
The Ilgio hydrographic reserve protects a lake system comprising Možeris, Ilgis, Žiauras, Vyštutis and Samanis. The Saločio telmological reserve protects Lake Saločis and the wetlands around it. The two protected areas therefore represent different landscape features: a system of several lakes on the one hand, and a protected lake with its wetlands on the other.
Sirvėta Regional Park is home to 415 recorded animal species. Of 257 plant species, 13 are listed in the Lithuanian Red Data Book. These figures provide an overview of the park’s diversity; they add the dimension of its recorded species to the picture of its lakes, wetlands and forests.
Educational Trails and Excursions
Sirvėta Regional Park has two educational trails: the Pažintinis mitologinis takas and the Šventos pažintinis takas. The park also offers tourist and educational excursions along various routes in the wider Švenčionys area. Those planning a trip and weighing up independent nature exploration against a guided excursion will find different ways to get to know the park here.
Culture in the Wider Švenčionys Area
In the wider Švenčionys area, the Sirvėta Regional Park visitor centre is housed in a renovated barn that forms part of the Šventos manor estate. The centre has an exhibition on Lithuanian mythology, with the Tree of Life at its heart. The venue thus combines a historic building with a clearly defined subject focus.
The visitor centre has been adapted for visitors with disabilities. An accessible route leads there from the car park, and there is also an accessible toilet. As facilities may change, check their current status before visiting.
