In Elektrėnai Municipality, exploring the landscape, discovering local culture and enjoying a range of leisure activities all come together. Part of Neris Regional Park lies within the municipality. The Pipiriškės Geomorphological Reserve showcases the landscape, while the Elektrėnai Regional Museum is housed in the restored granary at Abromiškės. Guided boat trips are available on the Elektrėnai Lagoon. When planning your trip, you can choose between nature, history and sporting activities.

The Neris Landscape and Geological Features

Neris Regional Park stretches along both sides of the river through the territories of Elektrėnai and Vilnius municipalities. The Pipiriškės Geomorphological Reserve covers 519 hectares. It is a good place to take in the landscapes of Elektrėnai Municipality and explore a complex of glacial marginal formations typical of the Dzūkija Upland.

The view from the observation tower near Ausiutiškės also takes in the Neris Valley. From there, you can also see the start of the Velniakampis loop of the Neris, described as the largest loop of the 510-kilometre-long river. For a closer look at the layers of the landscape, visit the Grabijolų exposure, about 100 metres long and around 6 metres high, where fossils can be found in its exposed strata.

The park at Abromiškės Manor brings together landscape history and a precisely dated protected status: the park was placed under state protection in 1985 and designated a natural monument in 1986. Another way to pause by the water is at the floating pontoon landing stage in Elektrėnai, a place to relax and enjoy nature, distinguished by its design and lighting.

Museums and Insights into the Region

Since 1 January 2024, the Elektrėnai Regional Museum has been housed in the restored granary at Abromiškės. Its notable holdings include a collection of sculptures by folk artist Ipolitas Užkurnys (1926–2004). The Hockey Museum has a different focus: it traces the construction history of the ice rink and displays numerous trophies won by Elektrėnai teams. It has been open since 2014.

In Vievis, the Centre for Information on the Earth's Interior is a reason to plan your visit in advance: prior booking is required for guided tours. If you would like to include a tour in your stay, remember to make the booking as a separate step in your plans.

On Foot, by Bike and on the Water

Described as “wild”, the Grabijolų educational trail runs from the ethnographic street village of Grabijolų kaimas to the Alkų Oak, described as the thickest oak in Neris Regional Park. Along the way, you pass the Saldus stream, the Uolkas or Alkų hills, the foundations of the former Zapalina Manor, Paalkių Hill and the Neris with its mythological stones. The route combines natural features with traces of history.

For cycling plans, the “Around Elektrėnai” route has clearly stated details: it is 14 kilometres long and listed as taking 6.5 hours. Ninety per cent of the route is on asphalt and 10 per cent on forest tracks. Its distance, stated duration and surface help distinguish it from a walking trail or a waterside outing.

Guided boat trips are available on the Elektrėnai Lagoon. The beach on the lagoon is popular with windsurfers because it has stronger and more consistent winds than other lakes. Other water sports and leisure activities are popular there too. If you prefer to stay on land, you can focus on the walking and cycling options mentioned above rather than treating them as interchangeable with a day on the water.

Sport and Leisure in Elektrėnai

“Vaikų pasaulis” offers walking and cycling paths, two skate or scooter parks, an amphitheatre and areas with outdoor fitness equipment. There are also opportunities to relax in nature, enjoy active leisure and take in views of the Elektrėnai Lagoon. The description therefore covers both activities and quieter ways to spend time outdoors.

Elektrėnai Swimming Pool has a 50-metre sports pool with eight lanes. The building also includes a sauna complex with Finnish and steam saunas, as well as a heated pool with a cascade and underwater currents. As opening arrangements may change, check the pool’s current information before visiting.

At the ice rink, you can go skating or watch ice hockey and figure skating competitions. Elektrėnai Disc Golf Park offers a different kind of sporting activity: the aim is to throw a flying disc from the starting point into the basket in as few throws as possible. Each subsequent throw is made from the spot where the disc landed previously. This gives you specific options in the municipality for enjoying the water, ice, cycling routes and outdoor exercise.
