Pakruojis District Municipality offers a range of starting points for planning a trip: a large historic manor, an important wooden synagogue, forest trails and geological formations. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, these themes can help you decide whether culture, nature or a combination of both will shape your stay.

Manor and Synagogue

Pakruojis Manor estate is considered the largest surviving manor estate in Lithuania. It covers more than 48 hectares and includes 34 buildings. The estate also has a restored dolomite arch bridge. Guided tours and educational programmes are offered there too; check in advance which dates and activities are currently available. The “Traktierius” inn serves special creations inspired by the local culinary heritage.

Pakruojis Synagogue is the oldest surviving wooden synagogue in Lithuania and was built in 1801. It was restored and opened in 2017. The manor and the synagogue offer different cultural highlights: one is an extensive ensemble of buildings and a bridge, the other a single building with a long history.

Forest Trails and Geological Formations

Rozalimo Forest Park has recreation trails, wooden boardwalks, parking areas, fire pits and observation platforms for viewing the forest’s biodiversity. The Rozalimo educational trail runs through the park and is about 4 km long. There are 18 information boards along the entire route, as well as newly established rest areas. The Lapgirių esker can also be seen on the trail.

Another natural feature is the Raudonpamūšio outcrop. It extends for 35 m along the steep left bank of the Mūša and is 4 m high. This offers contrasting ways to explore the landscape: a longer trail with information boards and rest areas, and a riverside outcrop described in geological terms.

An Earlier Trace of History

Peleniškiai hillfort is dated from the 1st millennium to the 13th century. It lies 3 km east of Pašvitinys, near the village of Peleniškiai. While the synagogue has a specific construction year, 1801, the hillfort’s dating spans several centuries. This distinction in timescales helps put the destination’s different historical themes into context.

In the Wider Destination of Ĺ iauliai County

Šiauliai County also offers cultural points of interest in its own right. The Hill of Crosses is an important religious site, bearing witness to devotion and fidelity to the sacrifice of the cross; Pope John Paul II visited it on 7 September 1993. At the Bicycle Museum, visitors can try road cycling in an exhibition on the third floor. These examples belong to the wider destination of Šiauliai County and complement Pakruojis’s local themes with religious heritage and an interactive museum experience.
