Hotel and location in Chok Tal

Chok Tal is home to a hotel by the lake with family-oriented accommodation and leisure facilities. These include children’s play areas and sports facilities. This property-specific equipment and facilities may change; if they are important to your travel decision, check them before arrival.

East of Chok Tal is the site of a planned tourism complex. It borders the Balykchy–Ananyevo–Karakol road, also known as EM-09. The site is in the northern coastal zone of Issyk-Kul; the lake forms its southern boundary. The route of the road is a permanent geographic reference, while traffic and transport services may change. Check connections for your travel date if you are planning your journey.

In the wider Issyk-Kul region

Issyk-Kul is 180 km long and 60 km wide; its shoreline is approximately 688 km long. The beaches stretch for around 320 km. On the northern shore of Issyk-Kul there are sandy beaches, holiday resorts and water sports facilities. These regional details provide a broader context for choosing a destination, while the hotel by the lake offers a specific accommodation option in Chok Tal.

Nature and culture are also defining features of the Issyk-Kul region. The Issyk-Kul Biosphere Territory is a specially protected natural area of national importance. In September 2001, it was included in the global network of UNESCO Biosphere Reserves. In the mountainous region around Issyk-Kul, natural habitats coexist with traditional culture.

Landscapes and geological features

The landscapes of the Issyk-Kul region display a variety of geological features. The Sogotu area contains a Mesozoic rock complex with palaeontological fossils. The Ak-Olon Valley has igneous outcrops with syenite crystals; the Jeti-Oguz Valley has a geological outcrop with rocks from the Carboniferous period. The Red Rocks of Jeti-Oguz feature thermomineral springs, considered evidence of ongoing geological processes within the Earth.

Other landscape features add to this picture: Kok-Moynok Canyon is a landscape with striking landforms. The mountainous landscape of Mukaachy Canyon was shaped by erosion over many millennia. Skazka Valley is a natural area; Barskoon Gorge has a waterfall. The region’s natural highlights thus range from fossils and rocks to gorges, springs and waterfalls.

Culture and trekking in the region

In Karakol, the Historical Local Lore Museum is housed in a building that retains architectural features from the late 19th century and forms part of the city’s historic streetscape. For trekking, the Terskei Alatoo trekking belt can be accessed from the southern shore settlements of Tamga, Barskoon and Tosor. The medieval settlement site of Tosor is also located in the Issyk-Kul region. These places represent different regional highlights: architectural history in Karakol, a settlement site in Tosor, and access to the trekking belt from the named southern shore settlements.
