Sulzano railway station is in the historic centre, a three-minute walk from the landing stage. Boat trips to the islands depart from here; hiking trails, the lakeshore and churches offer other highlights for a stay on Lake Iseo.
Lakeshore, beaches and island connections
The historic lakeside promenade runs between old villas and gardens. Along the way, there are small views of Monte Isola and Lake Iseo. The public bathing area is on Via Cadorna. Sulzano also has three public beaches: Lido Le Palafitte, the municipal beach on Via Cadorna and Spiaggia Carini. Beach facilities may vary seasonally.
The Giro delle tre isole boat tour departs from Sulzano’s landing stage. It goes to S. Paolo, Monte Isola and Loreto; timetables may vary. Sulzano is now considered the most suitable port for reaching Monte Isola, with very frequent services during the day and at night. Check current departure times before planning your trip.
Trails for different interests
The Strada delle Api is a nature trail. Information boards and an educational apiary explain bees, pollinating Apoidea and bee conservation. Along the route, on Via Nistisino, there is a picnic area with tables, benches and a barbecue. There are no toilets there.
The Antica Strada Valeriana starts in Sulzano and offers two options of different lengths: heading south, an easy, short 5 km walk; heading north, a more challenging 20 km hike. This lets you choose between a shorter walk and a longer, more demanding route to suit your plans for the day. The two distances refer to the routes described; no walking time is specified.
Another excursion leads through the woods to Cascata del Petoi: the walk takes about 30 minutes. There is a small statue of the Madonna at the waterfall. The approximate duration gives an indication for this route, without specifying an additional distance or return time.
Churches, views and local history
The Santuario di Santa Maria del Giogo is a 15th-century sanctuary. It stands on the panoramic ridge that descends south from Punta Almana. From the sanctuary, there are views of Val Trompia and Lake Iseo.
The Chiesa di San Fermo stands on a hill in the hamlet of Gazzane di Sulzano and lies along the ancient Via Valeriana. Every year, the Associazione Culturale San Fermo organises the Festa di San Fermo at the church of the same name in Sulzano, on Via Gazzane. The parish church, Chiesa di San Giorgio Martire, is also one of the town’s cultural landmarks: it was built in 1726 and has a façade with two tiers and rounded corners.
Getting here and finding your way around
Sulzano is served by the Brescia–Iseo–Edolo regional railway line. As train timetables may change, check the service for your travel date. The Sulzano Infopoint is near the landing stage. There, you can get tourist information and materials about excursions, cycling routes and trekking tours.
Sailing is another possible activity. The Associazione Nautica Sebina is located on the picturesque gulf on the border with Pilzone di Iseo, formed by the Montecolo peninsula; sailing is available there. Sulzano is therefore a point of reference for sailing enthusiasts.
If you are looking for a hotel in Sulzano, you can use your planned activities as a selection criterion: a trip to an island, a walking route or a visit to the churches each offers a different focus. The railway station and landing stage, the start of the Valeriana and the cultural landmarks mentioned above provide concrete points of reference without prescribing a fixed itinerary.
