Kish combines coastal activities, beach parks and traces of the island’s history. When planning, you can consider whether activities by the water, the parks or historical sites should be the focus of your trip. The island’s different facets can be seen, for example, at the Kish Recreational Pier, in the beach parks and at the ruins of Harireh.
The Coast and Activities at Kish Recreational Pier
The Kish cycling trail runs along the coast. Bicycles can be rented right next to the Kish Recreational Pier. The pier offers glass-bottom boat rides, as well as pedal boats, rowing boats and water bicycles. This gives you a choice of different types of activities on the water. If a particular boat ride or bicycle is important to your plans, confirm availability locally.
The pier is also a place to stroll and observe: you may spot turtles, fish or seabirds there. Those interested in wildlife will find a different focus here than on a boat ride or a cycling tour along the coast. You can choose between activities according to whether you would prefer to explore on foot, watch wildlife or go out on the water.
Beach Parks, Water Sports and Leisure Activities
Kish’s main beach parks include Mir Mahna Beach Park, Simorgh Beach Park, Fisherman Beach Park and Marjan Beach Park. Simorgh Beach Park is on the southeast coast, between Jahan Road and the Kish Cycling Trail. Mir Mahna Beach Park is described as the island’s largest amusement park. It is on Darya Boulevard, one of Kish’s main boulevards, where most of the island’s restaurants and shopping centres are located.
Parasailing is offered at Simorgh Beach, Marjan Beach and Damon Recreational Pier. If you would like to include this activity in your plans, check current availability before your trip. Kish Dolphin Park includes a bird garden, a circus, a laser show, a saltwater aquarium and landscaped outdoor areas. If the laser show is important to your plans, check the current performance schedule in advance.
Harireh and the Island’s History
The ruins of the ancient city of Harireh lie in the centre of Kish. The surviving remains include a mansion with tiles from the Ilkhanid period (1256–1353), a public bathhouse and industrial facilities. The ruins are considered evidence of Kish’s former economic prosperity and of trade between China, North Africa and Europe. Harireh thus combines visible architectural remains with a history that points to trade links beyond Kish.
Another historical event is associated with the Greek Ship: it ran aground off the island of Kish in 1926 and partially sank. The Green Tree offers a different way to connect with the island’s history and culture. Locals consider the 500- to 600-year-old fig tree sacred. Alongside archaeological ruins, visitors can therefore see a living natural monument and an old tree with local significance.
Another notable structure is the Kish Traditional Ab Anbar, a double reservoir in the Yazdi style with two domes and five wind towers. The Kariz Underground City comprises three aqueducts and 274 wells; it also has facilities for visiting Kish’s ancient aqueduct. The figures and architectural features give each place its own distinct focus: domes and wind towers define the Ab Anbar, while Kariz is associated with its aqueducts and wells.
Choosing a Holiday Rental and the Focus of Your Trip
When looking for a holiday rental in Kish, you can first decide which side of the island you want your trip to focus on: coastal activities and beach parks, historical sites such as Harireh, or structures such as the Ab Anbar.
